Righteousness in Christ - Standing Right Before God
Righteousness in Christ is one of the most liberating truths in the entire gospel. It answers the deepest human question: How can I stand clean, accepted, and approved before a holy God? Scripture makes it clear — righteousness is not earned, not achieved, and not maintained by human effort. It is a gift given through Jesus Christ. What Is Righteousness? Righteousness means being in right standing with God — fully accepted, fully justified, and fully aligned with His standard. Humanity lost this standing through sin (Romans 3:23), but God restored it through Christ. Paul writes, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21 This is not symbolic righteousness. It is real, legal, and spiritual righteousness credited to every believer. Righteousness Is a Gift, Not a Reward The gospel flips human logic upside down. Instead of working to earn God’s approval, we receive righteousness by faith. “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned… much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:17 This means: You don’t earn righteousness, You don’t grow into righteousness, You don’t maintain righteousness by performance. You receive it through Christ. Righteousness Produces Confidence, Not Condemnation Because righteousness is a gift, the believer can stand before God without fear, shame, or guilt. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1 Righteousness gives you, Boldness in prayer, Confidence in spiritual warfare, Freedom from guilt, Power to live holy and Authority in Christ. This is why the enemy attacks your identity — not your behavior. If he can make you doubt your righteousness, he can weaken your authority. Righteousness Empowers Holy Living Righteousness is not a license to sin — it is the power to overcome sin. When you know who you are in Christ, you live from identity, not insecurity.
