I thought I'd give an update on my current situation. It's more for sharing my experience in case it might help others. Day 1 (July 11): Aggravated my existing L4-L5 herniated disc after garage cleanup then bending/lifting awkwardly while fixing a drawer. Immediate back jolt/pop followed by severe spasms and difficulty moving. Needed help getting around. First flare-up since April 2026 (just before diagnosis of herniated disc by mri - previous flare-up in 2024 and 2025 but didn't know what it was). Day 2: Worst mobility day. Needed assistance getting out of bed and walking, but could move both legs and had no major new nerve symptoms. Days 3–5: Gradual improvement. Started walking regularly, moving independently, working short periods, and slowly increasing sitting/standing tolerance. Pain shifted from severe spasms to more manageable soreness/stiffness. Day 6: Felt much better but probably pushed sitting/activity a little too far, causing increased aching. Day 7: Had a small setback while putting on my left sock (bending/twisting triggered a sharp jolt). Moved back to rest, ice, and shorter activity periods. Set myself back by probably a few days Overall: Significant improvement compared to the first 48 hours. Still dealing with some low back pain and some left thigh numbness, but no new weakness or worsening nerve symptoms. Continuing gradual recovery and avoiding bending/lifting/twist ing for now. NOTE: Recovery from disc issues and flare-ups is a major mental - emotional game. Endless hours in my thoughts, wondering if there is a way forward or will this be a regular occurrence. I ordered a laptop table that I can use lying on a couch and still be somewhat productive.
