New Song Release!
Hey everyone! So I just launched a new artist project called "tethermind," and the debut single, "Noize," is officially live on all platforms. 🪐 What makes this one extra cool is that it's a collaboration between four of us here at mastering.com. I composed, arranged, and wrote the lyrics; @Lucy Warr nailed the emotion and vibe with her vocals; Chris Georgiou took the vocal production to a top-tier level; and @Damian Baca spiced it all up with some dope sound design and did the final mix/master. Here's the link to stream: https://ditto.fm/noize-tethermind Thanks!

Important hip hop side chains
@Damian Baca What are the important side chains to note in hip hop? Kick to 808 and voice to everything else?

Yeah man you can also answer this by shifting the thinking a bit. In every song as a producer we are guiding the focus of the listener. Sidechaining is just a tool to finesse that. So this may change song to song but you are thinking of using Sidechain to help elements move in and out and stay in focus. This shifts more of your focus to start thinking of your elements as either more of the foreground and background. For instance, in some tracks, atmosphere and ambience might be painted in the background to really fill out a song and give it a sense of space and cohesion and in that case side chaining the pads ambience and reverbs makes sense. But in some tracks the ambience might be the forward focus while other elements move to the background like a vocal. The short answer is it varies depending on where your wanting to pivot focus. There are no rules in music so keep experimenting man and share what you find here.
Produce-A-Thon is back!
We ran an event called Produce-A-Thon at the start of the year, and it was one of our most popular events ever. Good news - it's back! Starting Monday, Nov 11th, we'll be going live for three days of real-time production from scratch. You'll watch as two professional producers (Chris and Dane) go head to head to create a track using the same vocal, explaining every step along the way. Here's the link to RSVP: https://courses.mastering.com/event_full/1730137769843x859943494277136400?utm_source=FTMSkool&utm_medium=Event&utm_campaign=PAT11112024 See you there! - Rob
