Pro Tip Tuesday!
Hi Golf Farm Community! Amy rolled out our Monday Q & A section that you can expect every Monday! For Tuesday's we will be posting new tips and ideas centered your improvement! If you have specific golf swing questions, drills, or other content you'd like to see, drop a comment below and we'll get to them! 👇 For this week's Tip Tuesday, I wanted to chat about tournament golf and how I like to approach tournament golf versus a normal round with your buddies. ⛳ Yesterday, I played my first tournament as PGA Associate in the Oregon Chapter PGA and wanted to share my experience! Little bit of a longer post, but I hope you find this worth your time. You can find the results from Royal Oaks CC yesterday through this link. 🏆 For any of our competitive golfers out there, you know the feelings of anxiety, excitement, and stress that tournament golf brings. I've been playing tournament golf since I was about 9 years old. As a junior golfer, I was lucky to be good at this game and win many junior golf events in my local area. I enjoyed tournament golf because it brought feelings of excitement and motivation to go win as much as I could. It made me feel accomplished. - As I grew older into high school golf and college golf, I began to face better players along the way (and naturally as we know how hard this game is), I began to win less and less. Throughout college, I won 1 tournament in my 5 years. While I had some good results mixed in, it made continue to question if I was good enough to live out my dreams of playing on the PGA Tour. - Fast forward to the summer of 2023, where I turned professional to give this journey a chance. Deep down in my heart, I still didn't know if I was good enough to chase my dream, but knew I had to try or I would look back in 20 years regretting that I didn't give it a shot. - Throughout my first year of professional golf, I had a couple good results, but the challenge I continued to face was separating my feelings of my love for golf and the reality of trying to make a living playing this game. Throughout my golf career, my identity as I person was too correlated with my results as a golfer. If I played good, I felt great. If I played poorly, I felt terrible about myself. Through professional golf, I could feel myself losing the love I had for this game that began at 9 years old. Golf became more of a job than a passion. I knew I couldn't lose my passion for this game and needed to find a new path forward. (This is where you all come into play). - June of 2024, I decided to give up on my dream of playing professional golf. While this may seem depressing, the relief I felt and stress lifted off my shoulders was monumental. - Talking with my mentors @Brian Henninger and @Amy Simanton I was ecstatic to shift my passion towards teaching this game to others where I joined The Golf Farm team in August of 2024. For the past 14 months, I have loved every minute of teaching this great game to others and began to find my passion again. - Now for why I'm sharing this with all of you... yesterday I played my first tournament as a professional since I quit my dream almost 18 months ago. I went into this 36-hole day with no expectations on how I was going to play, but my only goal was to enjoy myself in a competitive setting. Yesterday was the first time (maybe ever) where I didn't care what I shot in a tournament. I approached each shot and situation with the mindset of trying to execute to the best of my ability and see where I stood at the end. I hit good shots, I hit bad shots, but by the end of the day I finished 1-under par for 36-holes in a tie for 10th place. - I share this because as golfers we all want to get better and it can be so easy to tie your success to your score, which can be mentally draining and defeating over time. Whether you're a competitive golfer or just enjoy playing matches with your friends, I challenge you on your next round to center your goals and expectations around what you can control. While we have some control over our score, what we have 100% control over is our mindset, attitude, and actions on the golf course. Go out and play your next round with this in mind and you may be surprised with what happens to your score... - I hope you enjoyed this type of content and let me know in the comments if this helps you during your next round! Cheers!
