Play time turns intense
Hello! Our dog Tater completed her training about 2 months ago or so now, and she is doing very well. One thing that happened, and we are looking to avoid this happening again, is that when her and our other dog Rollo are playing/wrestling in the house, she can get very amped up and the playing turns to being super aggressive and basically attacking Rollo. 99% of the time when they are playing and it starts to get intense, she will run and grab a toy and continue playing while holding the toy in her mouth. This is something she has always done, and just learned it on her own, and seems to calm her down or redirect her attention. The odd time we notice her getting amped up we will stop them, and focus her attention on a toy and then she will continue playing, but much calmer. The other day it escalated too quickly and we were distracted and the result was us having to physically grab her off of Rollo. She had her E Collar on but it was too quick to react. My question is, is there anything we can be doing training wise to help avoid this? Is it a matter of not letting them play, or monitoring them more closely? They have wrestled together many times since then, with no issues but we monitor them closely and if we sense its getting too intense we stop it and focus her on something else. Is this the proper approach or is there something else? Has anyone else seen this before? To note, Rollo is not scared of her, they still play, he will still run upstairs to get her out of the crate when we get home, everything was back to normal after the incident. Thanks!
