College Camp vs UA/FBU camps
I attended my first college camp today with the University of Delaware (about 275 players). I really liked how it was ran. There were more drills, more 1v1 reps, 2 attempts on broad jump, 5-10-5, and 40! UA runs a very good and organized camp, but it is so quick… any thoughts on college camps vs UA, FBU, Rivals, etc? Next summer I am going to hit some other local college camps!

Hi Logan, I’ve been to 2 UA Rivals combines, 1 UA NEXT combine and was invited to a compete in the UA NEXT All America camp this year. I’ve also been to two Mega Camps and several D1 college camps this year and each one is a little different. If you are looking for verified stats and high level competition for 1:1’s, UA is a good camp for that. You get verified laser times that you can share with coaches but there is very little coaching or development at these camps in my experience. College camps have been all over the place. Some focus more on development than others. My favorite camp by far was Clemson. It was a full day with built in breaks, tons of real coaching and a lot of 1:1 reps, plus they have an excellent facility. University of Tennessee Chattanooga (2 hour camp, but very efficient) and Vanderbilt (3-4 hour camp) also did a lot of coaching but camp was shorter. From an evaluation perspective, if you can build a relationship with a position coach before going that is really helpful as the coaches seem to focus a lot on the kids they have invited or built relationships with. Many of the college camps are hand timing the forty and other drills so your results are less accurate and many of the schools do not provide you with verified stats. The Mega Camps are similar to the UA camps in that many of them do offer verified stats, but very little coaching. If you are looking to network in person with a lot of schools at once, a Mega Camp can help you with that. I’ll leave you with two last tips: 1. Register early for camps that you really want to go to. Registration opens in March or April for a lot of them and they fill up fast. 2. Don’t fill your entire camp schedule too early. I was invited to a lot of camps and got the invitations in May and June and I already had 9 camps scheduled over three weeks. I didn’t have room to fit in more and I didn’t get time to rest properly between some of them. I’m going to be a senior this year and I needed a lot of exposure, but if I were doing it again, I would limit my schedule to 2 camps per week max so that your body has time to recover and allow you to be at your best.
