Horrible accident at Carnivals Island.
Whether this was a mechanical malfunction, a medical issue or just carelessness it's another horrible incident in the Cruise World this week. Look out for those you love and hold them tight. You never know when or how things will change. https://www.cruisehive.com/woman-dies-after-scooter-plunges-off-pier-at-carnivals-celebration-key/209019

@Dr. Saundra Stancil so tragic. I saw a YT mention it so googled to find a better account of events.
What is everyone’s honest thoughts on cruise gratuities?
I feel like cruise gratuities are becoming one of the biggest talking points in cruising lately, especially as prices continue to creep up across the board.💰 I completely understand why they exist and the role they play for crew. I also think a lot of people, especially first-time cruisers, are shocked when they see how quickly the extra costs add up once gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi and speciality dining all get added on. Some people prefer prepaying everything upfront so the cruise feels “done” before they board, while others would rather keep that flexibility onboard. One thing newer cruisers should know is that gratuities are often automatically added throughout your holiday, whether that is daily service charges or extra gratuities added onto drinks and speciality dining onboard, so it is always worth factoring that into your budget before you travel. Very interested where everyone sits on it now. Do gratuities bother you, or do you just see them as part of cruising at this point?😊👇

I have dug into this deeply prior to my last cruise on Royal. After much digging I did ask for the auto gratuities to be removed. Then I tipped in cash. NOT an option on MSC and clearly stated on the purchase page, at least for US cruises. My understanding is that the crew is contracted at a guaranteed wage. The bean counters have devised a way to include the gratuities into thee guaranteed wage. So if that is true, then you really aren't boosting anyone's take home pay. Other lines pool line wide, while some imply it is only for the ship you are on. I do believe that if an excess, above the guaranteed wage is collected it could be paid in a bonus. My concern is if too many passengers remove them, all lines will follow MSC and say they can not be adjusted on board. If they would just share how it all works (transparency) I think more would be agreeable. I remember the days of envelopes in the cabins to tip in cash and actually prefer that method. Like the fare pay those behind the scenes and those public facing employees should be given cash for good service. Gratuities are also handled differently on the same line depending on departure country. For instance I have heard on ships sailing from Australia they are not automatically included.

@Edgar Brincat thank you. There are multiple videos on YT about the pros and cons of removing automatic gratuities. I image each lines policies are as opaque as YT's algorithm that the people speaking on it are just guessing at the facts. Until the lines share their formulas we shall never know the full truth.
I've booked my trial MSC cruise!
I found an EXTREMELY low price on a solo cabin on the MSC Grandiosa out of Port Canaveral. Only $386.45 USD for a 7 night cruise. I am now booked on a 7 night trip November 7th through the 14th. Looking forward to a trial run on this cruise line!

To be honest it was a member only price on a website which I am a member. A benefits site I have access to from a former Municipal Government I was employed at. I've seen it on public sites for up to $1222 for the same category cabin on the same cruise.
Another Virus outbreak on a cruise ship.
Never heard of this virus until I saw this clip. Certainly not what we go cruising for! Very sad that someone has died and the ships doctor had to be evacuated as the doctor has contracted it.
With Royal adding even more Icon ships… where do you stand?
With Royal Caribbean doubling down on Icon Class and more mega ships coming over the next few years, it feels like cruising is going even further in that direction. So quick one… Would you rather:

Neither, I actually prefer somewhat smaller ships. Not necessarily the oldest/smallest so maybe the mid sized Allure was plenty big for me, but I also very much enjoyed Enchantment.
