How to handle rejection.
Rejection from a job feels horrible especially when you feel you’ve given it everything. You haven’t failed if you haven’t given up. It might just take a little longer than planned. Remaining patient with the process is key and once you get your first small win it feels euphoric - or at least that’s how I felt! Here are some tips to manage it: #1 Read your application again and highlight any areas you think could be improved. You'd be surprised what you'll find especially when it's been a few weeks and maybe you've sent off other applications. Can you word paragraphs better? Are your skills clear and relevant? Are your highest achievements front and centre? #2 Ask a friend or family member to take a look. A fresh perspective might offer you new insights that you can include! # 3 Take it professionally and not personally. A rejection is just a redirection and not a personal attack on you and what you've achieved. The same application might land you an interview elsewhere and there may be other factors outside of your ability to do the job that meant you weren't the right candidate right now so don't give up! A door will open eventually as long as you hang in there! How do you handle rejection? Share your experiences below 👇

How to answer "Tell me about yourself" in an engineering interview
Congrats! If you have an interview coming up take moment to celebrate - your efforts have paid off! Here's my advice for answering this question: 1. I created a bullet point list of what I wanted to say and spoke my "pitch" out loud. Bonus tip: record yourself so you can hear if your making sense (it will get easier with practice). 2. Gave examples of my strongest engineering experiences and academic results that were linked to the job role 3. Summarise by how these have led you to this role in particular. It shows you have thought through why you applied for this job + why you're the right candidate. It demonstrates you're serious about having a career in this field and you've made conscious choices along your way. What do you think? Leave your ideas below!

Feeling overwhelmed? Read below 👇
When I speak to people and they ask me how I got to where I am, it’s easy to say just work hard but it’s more complicated than that. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you have a goal but don’t know where to start. I certainly felt frustrated, overwhelmed and stressed when it feels such a big gap between where you are and want to get to. So here’s a few tips: #1️⃣ - Acknowledge how far you’ve come It’s easy to look ahead without remembering what you’ve achieved so far. You’ve got evidence that you’re capable of doing great things! #2️⃣ - Reach out Speaking to people who’ve walked where you want to go is a great way to gain perspective and insight. Networking might sound very professional but see it as having a casual conversation to lower the bar. People are more willing to help than you realise! #3️⃣ - Consistency Big goals require lots of time to come to fruition. It took me 10 months of job searching before I found the role I landed at McLaren. Then 7 months of applying to F1 roles before I received the offer. Being consistent is key and not giving up on your dream! If this helps or you have similar experiences let me know below! To your success, The Career Engineer
