I need your feedback.
I'm considering turning this group into an active training and educational group. Weekly Q&A lives Solar design training Solar installation education Plus a lot more My question is.... Would you be interested and would you actively participate? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Simon, I'd definitely be interested and willing to participate in installation and design trainings. Do you plan to run it along the lines of an 'accredited' course or just create your own syllabus comprising certain topics. If you accept that there are people that after gaining just a tiny bit of knowledge will go and do something stupid. I'm a sparky and naturally get lots of requests for help or advice. I haven't stopped assisting others because a small handful 'mis-used' the information I had given them. Fortunately, the majority of people are sensible, and if not, when they see their first blue sparks, they smarten up quickly. Grid supply is no longer the sole method of electrical supply. Many people are interested in understanding the systems they have installed or are looking to have installed. Many mistruths and myths have spread widely about battery technologies that has set a real fear in many people. An opportunity to see and learn that when designed correctly, the hazards can be effectively nullified. I'm sure there will be much satisfaction gained from each person that becomes 'enlightened'. Good luck with your idea.
The true cost of grid connected power
Have you ever done the math to see what being connected to the grid for the next 20 years will really cost you?

Based on 30¢/kWh and $500/yr service charges. After 20yrs you will have spent about $400,000

@Simon Gibbs I showed what I was using as the base data(Melbourne, VIC AVG) cause I understand there would be large variances between the states and the 'deal' that people are on. I also applied the 15%/yr-on-yr increase to both service and usage charges. 15% more than covers any incremental costs. It does annoy me that for the average person there is very little transparency in the charges/costs to be able to do a true cost comparison. Everything is compared to the "Victorian Default Offer" which I've never been able to establish any hard numbers for daily service charge or ¢/kWh. Appears highly dodgy to me.

How do I calculate the spacing between panels for sun tracking throughout the day and how much additional gain does it provide
Did you know.....
If you run sets of solar panels, you normally can't run more than 2 strings in parallel without putting DC string fuses in the positive and negative cables of each string. Its not because of the inverter or charge controller, its due to the reverse current rating for the solar panels themselves. Let me know, did you know about this?

No. I don't know of this. I've recently purchased a SMA 5kW hybrid inverter that has 3xMPPT Inputs. I'm aware I have much to learn before I connect anything to it. That's why I'm here

Hello everyone. Please refer to this pinned post for a quick overview of this community and how it works. ➡️ About the founder. My name is Simon Gibbs, and I began DCI Industries in 2010 in Australia as an electrical trade business. In 2012, I began getting into solar and then into off-grid solar systems. Since then, I have built DCI Industries with the focus to "make renewable energy better". Part of my commitment to making renewable energy better is this community. I want to create a community where people can learn and expand their knowledge and skills around off-grid solar power systems and other renewable energy technologies. 📗The Rules 1. No solicitation. If you have not been pre-approved by the admin team to post about your own business, then doing so will get you removed from the group. If you post anything that is designed to get people to move away from this group or to sell anything (without pre-approval), you will be removed from the group. 2. Be kind. There is no need for any unkind comments. If you see something that you think goes against the group rules or ethics, please report it to the admins. We can deal with things directly. 3. No bullying, hate speech or derogatory comments. There is just no need for it. If someone is putting up their opinion that seems to be way off track or really untrue, tag one of the admins in the comments, and we will make any kind of public correction. Most of the time, it is just someone who needs to be kindly educated, not screamed at. Let us handle that. 4. Discussion is welcome. We want everyone to join in, ask questions and contribute to posts. Together, we can learn so much. 5. Have fun. We have built this community and training library to help you, and we want you to enjoy it. If you have ideas on how we can do things better, please let us know. We love your input. ✔️ Learning Centre At the top of the page, there is a tab that says "classroom". This is where all the training courses, downloadable PDFs and other resources are located. You have access to this section whenever you want it, so you can always come back to anything that is in there.
