Great to hear from you David! Love the courage and confidence. I would take the melody of the song, find a way to play it on its own. Whether that’s on a phone keyboard or an instrument of some sort, and go over this with a “mmm” lots of space in mouth and a forward focused sound by adding a slightly bratty or valley girl sound, and blend these phrases in one succinct sentence of music each time. Focus on the space between the notes and making sure we get from one to the other super easily and confidently, never going above or below the desired note. Then do this on an open vowel, really nailing the whole a phrase as one piece with no breaths in the middle. With a touch of legato, or slight slide or connection in between each note. Doing this will allow you to connect to your breath support better and create more of a comfortable canvas for that rich tone to come through across the whole sentence, rather it landing on each note individually. Then you can work on the next steps and see where that takes you! Great to hear from you, and please ask ahead if you’ve got any further questions! If anyone else reading this wants to suggest anything? Please feel free to! I’d love us to work together on these things. There’s no wrong answers and it’s a safe space, so expect a little criticism and therefore a lot of growth! This isn’t a place for gatekeeping! Much love Trey!
