February 4, 2026 Proverbs 12:25 (KJV) “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.” Todays Relection Life can bring heaviness worry about the future, burdens from work or family, unspoken fears, or the weight of ongoing trials. Solomon wisely observes that such heaviness doesn’t just sit quietly in the heart; it causes us to stoop. It bends our spirit, drains our energy, clouds our outlook, and can even lead to despair or depression. The picture is vivid: a person weighed down, shoulders slumped, eyes cast low, struggling to stand upright under invisible pressure. Yet the proverb doesn’t leave us there. It offers a simple, powerful remedy: a good word. A kind, timely, encouraging word has the ability to lift that drooping heart and restore gladness. This “good word” can come from a friend, a family member, a fellow believer—or most powerfully, from God’s own Word spoken into our lives through Scripture, prayer, or the encouragement of others. In our fast-paced world, we often underestimate the impact of words. Harsh words wound deeply (as Proverbs 12:18 notes nearby), but good words heal and cheer. They remind us we’re not alone, that God is faithful, and that hope endures. Today’s Application Today, recognize any heaviness in your own heart. Bring it honestly to God in prayer, cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Then, look for opportunities to be the giver of a “good word.” A simple text of encouragement, a spoken affirmation, a shared Bible promise, or just listening with kindness can make someone’s day brighter. Today’s Prayer Heavenly Father, You know the heaviness that sometimes presses on my heart and makes me stoop. I confess my anxieties and burdens to You, take them, Lord, and replace them with Your peace that passes understanding. Thank You for the promise that a good word brings gladness. Help me to receive Your encouraging words from Scripture today, and make me sensitive to others who need the same. Use my words to lift hearts, cheer the discouraged, and point people to the ultimate Good Word, Your Son, Jesus Christ. In His name I pray, Amen.
