🎻 What are you working on right now ?
Hey everyone, I’d love to know, what are the main difficulties you’re working on at the moment in your violin journey ? It could be anything: – a technical challenge (intonation, bow control, timing...) – a musical one (swing feel, improvisation, learning new tunes...) – or even something about motivation or practice routine Sharing it here can really help others who face the same thing 👉 So tell us: what’s your main challenge this week?

@Phil Sheppard That was the hardest part of the beginning for me, also. I even started to have pain (all the way from my wrist radiating up into my arm, shoulder, and even clavicle and jaw) from all the pressure and effort I was using to get the attack at the beginning of the notes. I often tend to overdo things at the beginning. But it's definitely gotten better as I practice and keep coming back to the basics. I also saw my osteopath to help release the build up of tension and took an Alexander Technique lesson and then returned to practicing but in more conscious, freer, gentler manner. It's a process!

What I realize I have trouble with now is the syncopated note on the down bow. I’ve mastered doing it on the up bow, which took me quite some time.😀 Another example of the same issue is having trouble with a phrase that involves 2 down bows in a row that are done for a certain kind of phrasing. I’ll have to go back to a video to look at Eva doing what I’m trying to describe so I can explain it better.

@Kalina Jankova Yes, I would like licks, also. They're difficult for me to learn and memorize and apply live. I find I have to go through the video lessons very slowly, and I do the replays (since the EST time for live participation is the middle of the night) over and over to finally learn the licks.
Discovering Eva has made all the difference!
Bonjour/Hello, I love playing violin and studying jazz violin with Eva. It makes all the difference that she (like myself) started with classical and switched to jazz. Her teaching reflects that understanding. I find Eva's approach so clear and helpful and I've started to improve in a way I was struggling to find before I began doing her videos in April 2025.

Started classical @ age 9. Took off 20 yrs. Discovered jazz at 58, formed swing duo/trio & gigged 5 yrs. but didn't "get" jazz violin until Eva <3
