International Women’s Day
Today is International Women’s Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate all the women in this community who show up with courage, curiosity, and creativity. So many of us were taught to keep our ideas “small” or “sensible.” And yet here you are making art, trying new things, getting messy with paint and paper, telling stories with colour and texture, and letting yourself play. That is powerful. To the women who are: - Sneaking in 10 minutes of creativity between everything else you do - Coming back to art later in life - Learning to see yourselves as “real” artists - Sharing your work even when your voice shakes I see you. You are exactly who this creative world needs. Art has always been a place where women could whisper their truths, build their own worlds, and invite others in. Every collage you make, every character you invent, every wobbly line you love a little more each time…it all adds up to a bigger story about women taking up space in joyful, colourful ways. I couldn’t resist the boobs GIF 🙆‍♀️🫣🤪🤣🤣

Caroline, You so very eloquently spoke to what art has meant to me, and, it's profound capacity to give voice to those who are voiceless. I came to art much later in life, and, it became my lifeline. I survived an incredibly abusive childhood; and subsequently developed mental health issues in adulthood. Without my introduction to visual art as a means of expression, I, literally, would not be here today. Thank you so much for your words which resonated so deeply for me.
Weekend prompt
This weekend, I want to give you full permission to play first, “be good” later. If you’ve had a busy week, here’s your gentle nudge: carve out 20–30 minutes just for you, your paint, your papers, your glue, your scraps of fabric… and zero pressure to make anything finished. Here’s your simple Weekend Play Prompt: 1. Grab a page (or small canvas) and cover it with scraps, newspaper, torn book pages, patterned paper, tissue, or anything that’s lying around. 2. Pick just two colours of paint and loosely block in shapes , circles, blobs, arches, little houses, whatever wants to appear. 3. Add one tiny character or symbol that feels like you today, a tiny figure, a bird, a teacup, a flower, a baby, a heart, anything. No rules, no “right way”… just layers, marks, and curiosity. When you’re done (or halfway through!), share it in the community so we can cheer you on: - Post a photo of your page - Tell us in one sentence: “This is how I want my creativity to feel this year.” Let’s fill the group with messy, imperfect beginnings rather than waiting for “perfect” finished pieces. Who’s in for a weekend of playful making? 💕

I'm in!!
New work
New 6x6 mixed media on cradled wood canvas. Have been using Derwent Inktense pencils to deepen color on my backgrounds. I have had them for years, and, essentially did not like them. Glad I kept them around now. My first show is April 4th, Saturday before Easter Sunday. I prefer to do Spring in non-conventional colors, and lesser known, deeper quotes. Love seeing everyone's work!!

Deer
This was another I finished off this morning. I was experimenting with forests and Deer. Initially I wasn't that happy with this one, but I put it aside, instead of painting over it. Made a few small touches to it this morning, and I'm now actually quite pleased with it. It has a green effect to it, denoting a forest in the distant background.

I absolutely love this, John. I picked up the forest right away. A wonderful piece. Thank you for sharing.

Six days down and 94 to go! Just having some fun on Day 6 with mixed media art journaling around a theme of the impact of simple joys on the quality of our lives. Day 6 of the 100 day Project. I love to hear the birds chipping as the sun rises, and it truly is a wild and wonderful thing.

Trauma survivor and, artist. I create art that reflects my journey from an abusive childhood, through mental illness, to the light they couldn't dim.
