Photoshoot and Life Drawings this weekend.
I shot some 'foreshortening focused' poses this weekend. I get asked about that a lot! I should do a live class or something. I will sit down and process my photo sets soon. What did guys work on this weekend?

Organizing My Photography
Hi all, I'm finally taking the time to catalog my model photographs. I will start to organize them into folders in this channel. I'd like to make this a regular monthly feature if it's helpful. I'm not as prolific as Bryce Liston yet, but have a nice archive and am taking more and more photos every week. If you have any requests or ideas for model photos you are interested in, comment below. Thank you. I'm planning to do a male pro Muy Thai fighter soon. That will be epic!

Charcoal Experiment #018, Behind the Scenes and Photography
Just finished this morning. Took a few days and few tries. I didn't get to photo the first 'destructive' pass with the brush, since I did this at night. Everything I used is in the photo. Except for more brushes. I have a good flow with charcoal powder and brushes now. The photo I staged and shot. Lots of post in Photoshop unfortunately, I wasn't well prepared for the shoot but I got some good shots. What did you guys make over the weekend?

@Natasza Zurek Oh, thank you. I'm glad you noticed. That was 100% intentional. 😎
Narrative development
I am posting these as a showcase of my approach to figure illustration and character design for narratives. I completed these a while ago, but they still remain representative of the level of polish and design quality I hope to maintain and exceed in this group. The Jules Verne characters shown are in the public domain and have been produced for a narrative I am currently developing. Most of my illustrative work, including coursework, uses IP's (intellectual properties) I am currently developing as a springboard. I currently have 6 narratives in production which I hope to release in the form of short stories, comics and games. If you are interested in such an approach to figurative illustration, then please feel free to look out for my regular updates in this forum. All the best with your daily practice everyone.

The characters have a lot of charm, and the details are very well drawn.

@Darin Huddy I miss when Laura Croft looked like a cool/sexy femme fatale. Not a 2020's DEI hire. I'm glad they're bringing that version back. πŸ˜‚ Nice drawing btw

⭐ Our master work of the month is: "The Milkmaid" (De melkmeid or Het melkmeisje) by Jahannes Vermeer* Date: C 1657 - 1658 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Milkmaid_(Vermeer) 🌹 What is the Masters Project? This is a group project where we study and appreciate a great masterwork from history. At the end of the month I will do a deep-dive and analyze what makes his work beautiful and worthy of praise and study. If you are are an artist scroll down to see the ways you can study a masterwork. If you are not a artist you can contribute your own essays and analysis on Vermeer or the historical context of his time. πŸ€” Why Vermeer? - I believe he is one of historically great artists/draftsman in human history and is worth of study - The 19th century greats that we idolize all looked to the 17th greats that came before them, so we should do the same - It's good to examine a more "famous" or "mainstream" work from history to see if it's actually worthy of being remembered (hint: Vermeer actually is!) - Personally I admire and need to study, model and examine soft and quiet work/scenes and genres. Soft, quiet, pretty look and aesthetic is something I want to strengthen in my own work. I would like to do 3 paintings by Vermeer this month (see attached). ------------------------- πŸ‘‰ To join the project: #1. Study this masterwork to the best of your ability and current skill level. #2. Study with intent and care. Learn from the master, don't just copy. #3. Post your work here in this thread. #4. Along with your work share your lessons and thoughts. Drawing/painting with thought and intention = massive learning. #5. Support, encourage and teach your classmates. Treat this project like we are in a live classroom. In live class rooms students collaborate and mentor others. Complete at least 1 master study per week before the deadline so I can give you feedback. I will also do live demo every week on one of the master study paths.

"Girl Reading a Letter by an Open Window" (circa 1657 -1659) I just discovered this one. So exquisite.

Study I did in graphite. You don't have to do the entire painting. Choose a section or piece that resonates with you.
