Which Pro Swing Do You Visualize
Hi all, this note is based on a bit of an aha I had today, while practicing. I do not know about you but I study professional swings in slow motion to highlight and confirm certain elements in my swing I am working. It helps also in developing a visual for me to capture. I have my favourite players that I would love to have their swing. Now I am partial to Rory Mcllroy and Xander Schauffele. Who‘s swing do you like? Tiger, Jack?? While I am not in the camp that everyone has a unique swing and coaches have to customize every swing, I had sort of an aha that for different parts of your swing you need different visualizations or study different types of swings. I would break the swing into 3 components, back swing, downswing or transition, and then impact/follow through. Here is how I think my swing goes, take away is not bad close to Rory good turn, as I start the downswing I become Hulk Hogen or the Rock. I tense up gather all my strength and try to muscle my way to the ball. At impact I think I turn into the chickens from the muppets, my chicken wing is so prominent I am giving serious consideration to renaming my golf bag KFC! As you know I have been working on stopping an over active right shoulder and coming over the top. Trying to relax at the top and let the arms drop the club into the slot. I had trouble visualizing that relax 😎 part. Then I just started slowing down my downswing, I hit the ball better and farther by slowing down. I thought be like Freddy Couples. Maybe you should look at different golfers rather than than your favourite depending on what you are working on. In the backswing, you want to be perhaps Rory Mcllroy, controlled, precise getting to the same potion at the top of the swing, then you want to be Freddie Couples totally relaxed and fluid as you start the down swing, he looks like he is falling asleep hitting the ball, then you want to turn into Tiger or Jack with great hand speed and athleticism. You can pick the golfers that suit your eye and approach.

Hey Steve. Love the post man. I think what i feel here is a lot of what i have done to build my game. Growing up I visualized Mike weir In the backswing, and then Phil Mickelson in the down swing. Putting I always felt the hands Brandt Snedeker had while putting. I have felt the head movement of Rory in the past too. I’ve always tried to visualize tiger but he actually always felt too robotic for me. I think it’s a good idea to match swing thoughts to personality types/similar flaws we have with tour pros. But my ultimate advice for swing feels, is the true feeling you have that no one else knows. It’s actually shedding the idea you’re prescribing. Something I had too as well. When ever I have gone berserk, and my ball striking goes no mind and I get hot, I simply am reacting. There’s no trying feels of what someone else does. There’s no words. There’s nothing. It’s as pure as a jump shot, as a wrist shot, as playing piano, shooting pool. I played hockey, threw footballs, shot pool, played piano, played basketball growing up. What I realized in all momentary reactions those activities brought was nothing was happening in my head when I did it my best. That’s always the commonality. And I don’t believe I’m different than others. You talk to a lot of high level “reactors,” and they say the same thing. Some don’t even recall why they got hot. I remember shooting 63 in a tournament with 7 birdies and no bogeys, and I had no thoughts all day. I simply saw the shot and saw it go to the target all day, and my putter was hot. And I focused on smiling all day. I was lowest in that field by 10 Shots that day in a pretty strong field. The conditions were brutal, wet, windy. That’s it. There’s no thought. It’s/ more technically… 1. Visualize the shot behind the ball 2. Walk in with confidence / soft gaze / 3. Stand over the ball with the right alignment 4. The last look to the ball is feeling the ball go towards the target 5. Relaxed aggressive swing I let my mind not even say these things / I let it happen / I react

Golf is a reaction sport, from Brooks Koepka
@Steve Becker case and point :) I can vividly recall the anxiety of big tournaments…, Major scouts watching me, Club Championships, High School Championships, National Junior Opens, I would have this constant battle of nerves and trying to get technical. I knew the moment I got technical I was done. So my system was to Talk to myself I would say between shots (from my old yardage book) -react, f**k it, who cares where it goes, free up -shot to shot Chris, shot to shot to the clubhouse -be here, no technical, be an athlete -I’m a world class putter let’s get hot When I felt really anxious I would look at my laminated card I made for myself and read the words until I was almost Laughing, laughing at my serious self, at my golf coach mind, and the quiet confidence, the wry smile would show up. I would start reacting Brooks knows this all too well. And he’s so nonchalant about it
