📹 Weekend Challenge: Share Your #1 Behaviour Struggle
Alright everyone, here’s your mission for the weekend 👇 I’d love each of you to post a short video in the community (as a new post, not as a reply here) showing the one behaviour that you feel you’re battling with most right now. It might be: - Jumping up at visitors - Barking at the doorbell - Pulling on the lead - Ignoring recall - Or anything else that feels like your top training headache! This isn’t about judgment or perfection — it’s about giving me (and the rest of the community) a real look at what challenges you’re facing. That way, we can: ✅ Tailor advice to your specific needs ✅ Spot common themes we can all work on together ✅ Remind each other that nobody’s dog is perfect (and that’s totally fine!) 👉 So over the weekend, grab your phone, capture a quick clip, and then post it as its own new thread in the community. Title it something like ( Dog’s Name] — Our Struggle with Recall” so we can find and follow along. I’m looking forward to see what comes in — and I’ll be jumping in with tips, and guidance, . 💪🐾

Impulse control : So overlooked but vitally important
New Video: Working Impulse Control with Young Boris 🐾 I’ve just uploaded a new video where I begin some impulse control work with Boris, a young dog right at the start of his training journey. Impulse control is so often overlooked at the outset of training, but it’s absolutely vital. Without it, we see all sorts of unwanted behaviours: - Jumping up because the dog just can’t resist the excitement - Chasing after other dogs, birds, rabbits, or cyclists - Charging chaotically around the dog park - Total mayhem when the doorbell rings -Reactivity All of those behaviours come down to the same challenge—struggling to manage impulses. That’s why we start here. In this video, you’ll see a powerful example of it. As I release the other four dogs, Boris wants , with every fibre in his body to leap up and join them. You can practically see the energy running through him! Yet even though every instinct is telling him to go, he manages to hold himself back. That little moment of self-control is huge—so well done, Boris for finding your pause button. 👏 This is only one way of beginning to build impulse control, but these first steps are the foundation that prevents bigger problems later on. A dog that can master these small victories becomes easier to live with, safer in the real world, and far more enjoyable to take anywhere. 👉 Watch the video and notice how much effort young Boris is putting into keeping himself together—it’s the start of something really important. 2 days ago he was as good as totally feral

@Paula Sturges do some of this with Rolo Paula . You don’t have the luxury of other dogs so use tennis balls, toys , just get him to not move. Be sure to employ patience and your sense of humour, let us know how it goes

Live Q&A with Chris
After speaking with Chris yesterday evening, as advised I used a clicker on our walk today to help with engagement. WOW, who would have thought that something so simple could make so much difference. No speaking, unless to give a command. Just click and reward the behaviours you want. Total game changer for us. Thank you Chris for taking the time to help

Hi, My best advice is start as you mean to go on, jumping up etc is cute when they are tiddlers, not so cute when they are, a year old covered in mud and soaking wet, dont give them to much freedom as a pup, create an enviroment where you are giving them something to do , ENGAGE ENGAGE ENGAGE, if not as they grow, they will become accustomed to self entertainment, and you will soon become redundant until mealtimes,. I could go on and on, > Best advice , get on a live call nearer pups arrival day, and I'll talk you through it. Fun times ahead
