Do You Look Like You? Headshot Resources
Hey loves, how's your headshot game? I saved you some time figuring out how to set up more professional photos: I was reminded to update mine when a new client confusedly explained their blank stare when arriving. Apparently my hair grow-out over the last year was enough to throw off their expectations. So, that's a big sign it's time to update lol. Besides, since I'm putting myself out there more and more on Linked In to connect with other professionals, it was time for an update ✨ When our clients know exactly what to expect, they actually are more comfortable and relaxed right away. I was kicking and screaming against taking pics of myself and PUBLISHING THEM on the whole internet when I started my business, but I pretty much get the process now. I understand how important it is to get reasonably confident with pictures. And it's easier to get the full benefit of the internet presence you've cultivated if you have one solid, recognizable photo of yourself, that matches across platforms. So I rummaged around for what the internet has to offer, and in case you also need to tighten up your online image, I saved what I found for you: - don't use Canva's AI generated pro headshot tool lol. - top AI headshot generators were evaluated by Jennie Lakenan specifically for the life coaching industry (which is not the same but parallel enough that we can share a lot of digital resources). Her reviews are here: https://jennielakenan.com/best-ai-headshot-generators-2025/ - I was curious about the AI options but ultimately didn't feel like using them, so I pulled together a quick shoot with my tripod and curtains. I'm NOT a photographer but I've taken a handful of little courses over the last few years to get better at generating misc selfies, so I went that route this time. (lmk if you'd like my compiled selfie tips) - I went down the internet hole a little on how to make sure we're putting our best foot forward in professional images and found this WEIRD GEM: https://www.photofeeler.com/ This is where total strangers with almost zero context rate your photo based on 1) competence 2) likeability 3) influence. The benefit here is that you get an unbiased read on the way your pic is hitting the "snap judgement" side of people's brain.... which is actually what you need to know when you're choosing between photos. My first photo came back with a lower competence grade than I felt good about putting out there, so I hit my photo set again and grabbed one with a more "competent" expression. Sure enough, the randos agreed that I look more like I know what I'm doing now lol. I'll try for a higher influence score in a few months 😉

After a disappointing solo photo shoot, I opted for the AI version. Whilst scrolling on LinkedIn, I saw an ad for AI generated headshots. For $50 I got 12 images with 3 that resemble me. Not a bad investment. I rarely wear makeup or style my hair, so this $50 is a lot less than it would have cost me to go get it done. Here it is: The only weird thing to me is that there are mountains in the beach backdrop— I’m from Florida 😁

I used Instaheadshots.com They gave me 12 headshots for the $50. I just sent in 10 selfies. Here’s another one I used from them. Like I said, there were 4 good ones out of the 12. Not bad.
Steal My Newsletter on Headaches
hey loves, are you sending out regular newsletters? For me, shooting off an email is absolutely the fastest way to fluff up the next week's appointments. It doesn't require any special tricks or talking to strangers- just reaching back out to people who already got in touch with you. It's the most motivated pool of potential clients✨ We need to Remind them we're here! Just for context, if you're new to newslettering: My mailing list is 330 addresses(ish), I usually run around 50% open rate, and it's normal for me to get 3-8 appointments set from a given email. When I email more frequently, my appointments per newsletter go down slightly, but my overall bookings go up, so the trade off seems to be worth it up to weekly newsletters. This initially really surprised me, bc I tended to think people didn't want to be bothered so much! I go back and forth on how systematic I am, honestly. Like most of you, I get that cyclical effect where I'm doing so much hands-on work I don't pay as much attention to marketing. But then the hands-on slows down and the marketing has to pick back up! So I pretty much always do 1-2 per month, and sometimes I'll email weekly for a little while to stir up my clientele. Right now Mika and I are putting together our March Special (which I'd love to share with you when the packet is all set), but I just wrapped up a little headache-themed newsletter. Its an applicable topic for most of us, so I thought I'd share. Feel free to copy it directly, or make a few adjustments, or use it as inspiration. Whatever helps you. I ran it through a content grader and it got 9/10 for clarity, readability, and marketing strength, and rated as 6-8th grade reading level. If you use this in any way, please come back and update us on how exactly you implemented it, and how it went for you! I'm happy to share the work I put in writing to help more of us book more massages, and I'd like to make sure I'm getting better at developing stuff for us. It's a "Rising Tide Lifts All Ships" thing for me. Let's get more people more massages!

You are so awesome! And generous as well! This is a great very well written newsletter. As a seasoned therapist who’s been in a corporate job for the last decade and starting over again in a solo practice, I thank you greatly for your time and enthusiasm for this art we do! 🙏🤗🥰
What are Your clients looking for?
Imagine your perfect client, the person who really needs exactly the thing you do best. When they start looking for your service, what signals do they pick up that helps them know you're the right practitioner for them?

One way I believe is to be where my ideal clients frequently hangout and show through my dress, attitude, and personality that I am a good fit The most obvious to me would be to go to the gym regularly, maybe wear my masage therapist shirt and just smile & be open to conversation. Most people at the gym have headphones on & don’t make eye contact. Bit of I see someone rubbing their shoulder, I will for sure make myself seen and maybe say something like, I can help you with that 😊

@Adele Lafever For me it is a stretch to get out of my comfort zone as I’m not a social butterfly. So for that aspect I do it. I have made some good gym buddies and have given out cards. I set up the chair this past Tuesday with the permission of the gym manager and scored a couple of clients! One of which will be a weekly appointment. My hands speak better than my mouth sometimes 👍
