Hi Everyone 👋 Grab yourself a coffee, pull up a chair...Take five to read and digest 🙏 I wrote years ago about bringing out the Big Guns. Listening. Compassion. Forgiveness. Moving forward together. I stand by it. But I've learned something since then that I didn't know how to say. The problem isn't that we don't know what to do. The problem is that we're afraid. Not the obvious fear. Not fear of war or famine or the knock at the door. The fear underneath. The one we don't name. The fear that there isn't enough. Not enough food. Not enough water. Not enough land. Not enough money. Not enough power. Not enough love. We've built everything on this. Every system. Every conflict. Every wall. The belief that your gain is my loss. That your survival threatens mine. It's in the boardroom. It's on the battlefield. It's in the way we look at the refugee and think they want what I have. It's in the way we hoard and compete and defend. And here's what I've come to understand..... You cannot fix this with policy alone. You can build walls. Pass laws. Redistribute resources. All of it matters. All of it is necessary. But if the fear remains, we'll find new walls. New enemies. New reasons to cling to what we have and keep others out. So what do we do? I don't have a clever answer. Just this..... We have to look at it. Turn towards the fear instead of running from it. Stop dressing it up as politics or patriotism or common sense. Admit that we are afraid. Afraid of not having enough. Afraid of being forgotten. Afraid of losing what we've built. Afraid of death. Afraid that we are not enough. And then see that everyone else is afraid too. The billionaire and the beggar. The politician and the prisoner. The person who looks like you and the person who doesn't. All of us. Carrying the same terror. Managing it in different ways. I'm not saying this to excuse cruelty. I'm not saying we should understand our way into accepting injustice. I'm saying that when you see the fear in someone else, even someone who has hurt you, even someone you despise, something shifts.
