Make Room to Try starts Monday 🍞
You came to The Bread & Butter Way because you want to make bread. Maybe you have flour in the pantry, a starter in the fridge, or recipes and videos saved for “someday.” But life gets full, the kitchen gets busy, and bread keeps getting pushed back. That is why we are doing "Make Room to Try" next week. From Monday, October 5, 2026 through Friday, October 9, 2026 I will share one small, practical invitation each day, right here inside this free community. This is not a full bread course. It is not a kitchen makeover. It is not five days of baking. You do not need a perfect kitchen, an active starter, special tools, extra money to spend, or a free afternoon. We are simply going to take the pressure off, make a little room for bread in real life, and take one small step at a time. Over the five days, you will make a little space for bread, gather what you already have, choose one clear path, and decide on a realistic next bread step. Because I am a firm believer that bread should fit your life, not take it over. If you are planning to join us, comment “I’m in” below as your little promise to yourself to come back here each day next week for one small bread step. I’ll be here cheering you on. Be sure to turn on your community notifications so you do not miss the daily invitation. Day 1 begins Monday, October 5. I’m so glad you are here. Sandra

I'm in. Have had a few good loaves and few dense chewy not so good ones...I know I've got lots of room for improvement and have some major knowledge gaps, grateful for the community!
Fri“YaY” Let’s Celebrate This Week's Wins! 🎉🍞
Before we head into the weekend, I want to hear: What is one win you had this week? Maybe you baked your first loaf, learned something new about your starter, tried again after a flop, made time to bake in a busy week, or simply showed up and kept going. Big wins, little wins, and “I didn’t give up” wins all count here. Share yours in the comments so we can celebrate with you! & Tell me what your baking this weekend?

Thank you kindly ladies! It may have been a fluke we will see if lightning strikes twice with the second round. I am not sure about consistency yet just happy I came here for support and tips! Can't wait to try more this fall. I've seen some of your loaves and they all look tasty. So far I've found the shaping to be daunting with scoring but I'm sure it gets easier the more you do it.

@Sandra Brenes excited for it to be part of the norm...trying slight variations from first loaf and seeing changes visually waiting for cooling to cut and taste currently. Second loaf much larger didn't have a super tight ball after cold ferment I think it even rose/spread out and I could have reshaped before oven today but chose to leave it kind of big. It baked bigger but also had sprinkled in yeast per your guide. It seems fine but the top "ear" is not as present because I think the rising didn't take place in oven as much this time. Do you ever reshape cold dough that's been shaped already before fridge next day before baking? Does it affect the density if you handle it more/second round of shaping or is it usually not noticeable?
September: Bake It Forward
September is for the people we feed. When back-to-school season hits, the days can feel full before your feet even hit the floor. There are lunches to pack, rides to make, dinner to figure out, and so many people depending on you to keep things moving. And sometimes, having a loaf of homemade bread on the counter is one small, beautiful way to say, I was thinking of you. This month inside The Bread & Butter Way, we’re talking about Baking It Forward. Not in a “you need to do everything from scratch” kind of way. We are not trying to create a perfect kitchen, a perfect routine, or a picture-perfect loaf. We are simply making room for the little things that help a home feel cared for: - Toast before everyone heads out the door - A sandwich made with bread you baked yourself - Grilled cheese after a long day - A warm loaf dropped off for a neighbor - Letting your kids watch you try again when the dough doesn’t go quite as planned Because when you bake, you are giving your family more than bread. You are showing them that real food can be simple. That feeding people does not have to be complicated to be meaningful. That a warm kitchen, a good loaf of bread, and a little patience can make ordinary days feel special. You are building confidence—one dough, one loaf, one meal at a time. That is what I want for you this month: less overthinking, less pressure, and more simple bread that fits into your real life. One method. Simple tools. A rhythm you can actually keep. We’ll be focusing on the breads that support busy families best: soft sandwich loaves, easy everyday baking rhythms, simple meals, family food traditions, and the quiet confidence that comes every time you pull a loaf from the oven. You do not need to bake every day. You do not need every loaf to look perfect. You just need to take the next step. Let’s make bread that feeds the people we love—and then pass that goodness forward.

Excited to add bread not as a to-do on the list that's always there but more like a bright spot in the day or week that brings real joy to all of the family in the simplest way. The aroma of baked bread will always hit as one of the top experiences in my opinion next to cookies and good coffee.
