Can I receive flight training in the US if I'm not a citizen?
Yes! Go to the TSA's "Flight Training Security Program" website to register as a candidate at submit an application. After going through their steps, the government will tell your instructor/school that you can legally train (bear in mind these steps can take months to complete). The steps are pasted below, copied right from the linked website above: 1. Register with FTSP. Register an account on their portal. 2. Apply for a security threat assessment (STA). Complete the STA application. 3. Pay the fee. Follow directions on the portal to pay using Pay.gov. 4. Get fingerprinted. When you receive fingerprinting instructions in an email from TSA, follow the directions to be fingerprinted. The TSA-approved fingerprint - collector will collect and submit your fingerprints. Bring the email with you to the collector. 5. Wait for your Determination of Eligibility notification. After your fingerprints are accepted, TSA will conduct the STA. TSA will notify you by email if you receive a Determination of Eligibility, which allows you to select a provider and train for up to five (5) years as long as your identity documents have not expired and you are legally present in the United States.
