If ChatGPT can do what you do, you've got a problem
I know that's probably a strange thing for me to say in an email to coaches. But I think we need to be realistic about what's happening. If someone can type: "Help me improve my confidence." "Give me 10 questions to help me find my purpose." "How do I change my mindset?" …and get a pretty decent answer in 30 seconds for free… Why would they pay a coach hundreds or thousands to give them the same information? That's the challenge facing coaching right now. And AI is only going to get better. But here's what I think is really interesting… AI isn't going to replace great coaching. It's going to expose the difference between information and transformation. I saw that again on Monday when I ran my relationship masterclass. We talked about breaking relationship patterns, resentment, triggers, trust, communication, confidence and healing what's happened in the past. People don't struggle with these things because nobody has ever told them what to do. Most of them already know. They've read the books. Watched the videos. Listened to the podcasts. And now they can ask ChatGPT too. And they're still stuck. Because knowing you need to set a boundary isn't the same as being able to set one. Knowing you have trust issues doesn't suddenly make you trust again. Knowing you're repeating a relationship pattern doesn't necessarily tell you how to stop it. That's where a properly trained coach becomes incredibly valuable. And it's why I believe relationship coaching is one of the areas AI is going to struggle to replace. If you missed Monday's session and want to see the kind of work I'm talking about, I've made the replay available here: Watch the Relationship Masterclass replay here And then next Monday, 12th October, I'm running a completely FREE live masterclass specifically for coaches: The Coaches AI Can't Replace And How to Become One I'm going to show you: What's happening to the coaching industry as AI gets better.

Ed I absolutely love this because you are right. When I started actually coaching one on one’s I totally used AI to help me direct the conversation. Which wow it was pretty powerful and tempting to make all my sessions that why untill I realized how robotic, impersonal and. It the kind of coach I wanted to be came into play. Then realization made me wake up. When starting coaching it’s important to have your own style and put YOU into it. That’s where the magic is snd AI can’t replace that
What makes a coaching session worth $1,500-$10,000?
There are coaches charging $50-$100 a session... And there are coaches charging $1,500, $5,000, even $10,000+ to work with them. So what's the difference? It's NOT necessarily that they know more. It's not that they have more qualifications. And it's definitely not that they have some magical coaching question nobody else knows. They know how to create breakthroughs. Because clients don't really pay you for your time. They pay you to help them change something they haven't been able to change on their own. A relationship that keeps falling apart... A pattern of procrastination or self-sabotage... A lack of confidence that's holding them back... A fear that keeps stopping them taking action... A behaviour they KNOW isn't serving them…but they keep repeating anyway. The problem itself can be completely different. But the skill of getting underneath that problem, identifying what's REALLY driving it and coaching somebody through it is incredibly valuable. And that's what I'm going to teach you LIVE on Monday 21st September: How To Do A Breakthrough Coaching Session So You Can Charge Between $1,500-$10,000 By Transforming Your Client Regardless Of Their Problem… I'll walk you through how I structure a breakthrough session from beginning to end. How to move beyond the surface problem. How to uncover the patterns and beliefs underneath it. How to know where to take the conversation. And how to create the kind of breakthrough where your client leaves thinking, "I've never seen it like that before." If you want to charge more for your coaching, don't just focus on becoming better at selling coaching. Become better at creating transformations worth paying more for. Secure your place here

That’s always my issue is trying to find the patterns hearing the patterns I think is two, and if I had to be completely honest, I feel like when you are actively listening, you can ask the questions that can transform the lives. I feel like that’s the key easier said than done I’m finding.
Would you take your own coaching advice?
Here’s an uncomfortable question for you as a coach… Are you actually doing the work you ask your clients to do? We coach clients to look at their patterns. We coach clients to take responsibility. We coach clients to have difficult conversations. We coach clients to stop blaming other people. We coach clients to let go of resentment. We coach clients to deal with the stuff they’ve been avoiding. But are YOU doing the same? Because there’s a big difference between knowing how to coach something… And actually living it. You can know every coaching model in the world but if there are areas of your own life where you’re still blaming… Avoiding… Reacting… Or holding onto what somebody did to you years ago… That will eventually find its way into your coaching. Maybe you avoid challenging a client because their situation feels too familiar. Maybe you automatically take their side. Maybe you’re trying to “fix” something in them that you haven’t yet dealt with in yourself. That’s why I believe some of the most important work you’ll ever do as a coach… Is the work nobody sees you doing on yourself. Tomorrow I’m running a live Masterclass: Heal The Past: How To Stop Resentment Monday 7th September 6pm UK | 1pm EST Come as a person first and as a coach second because you might learn as much about yourself as you do about your clients. I love that I love at JC Smith. I didn’t finish the course like I should’ve but his stuff always popped back into my inbox and I love the questions she’s asking and it’s making me really wanna look at myself as a coach as a coach. I am a recovery coach I should have paid more attention to EJ Smith in the first place. I am about to go back and just start redoing his classes and his transformation because he is really what I’m looking for and what I strive to be in a coach and I’d love the question he’s asking.

@Ed JC Smith so I started your coaching practice and then stopped it and then became a recovery coach and realized very shortly that coaching is a skill and that that skill is what helps transform other people so my coaching training was two weeks and it was nothing about the skills that are needed for coaching and so what is brought me back to your coaching process is the fact that you do realize it’s a skill and it’s a very formidable skill and it’s a skill that needs to be practiced learned and hold in you can be your own coach. You can have your own coaching style, but you have to know how to coach first you have to know what your issues are inside as your coaching you need to learn about yourself as well
You can't coach what you can't see
There’s a phrase I use a lot in coaching… You can’t change what you can’t see. But I think there’s another version of that for coaches: You can’t coach what YOU can’t see. Look, we all have blind spots. We all have patterns we’ve repeated so many times they just feel normal. We have ways we react that we’ve justified for years. We have stories about what happened to us that we’ve told ourselves so many times we no longer question whether they’re actually true. And here’s where it gets interesting as a coach. If you can’t recognise a pattern in yourself… How easily are you going to recognise it in somebody else? And even if you DO recognise it… Are you going to have the courage to challenge it? Especially when challenging your client might mean challenging something you believe about yourself. This is why I’m such a believer in coaches continuing to do their own inner work. Not because you need to be “fixed” before you can coach, but because every layer of self-awareness gives you another lens through which you can understand the person sitting opposite you. On 7th September I’m running: Heal The Past: How To Stop Resentment And I’d love you to experience this one slightly differently. Don’t just take notes thinking, “How could I use this with a client?” Instead, asl yourself, “Where can I see this in ME?” That question might teach you more about coaching than another page of notes ever will. I completely agree. I absolutely love this philosophy because the more that I’m coaching the more that I’m in recovery the more that I’m learning about myself and who I am as a person which I feel like the more that I’m learning about who I am as a person the more that I can help other people maybe realize who they are and that’s my big goal at the end of the day, right is to help them heal to help him transform and help them get on with it in a positive way
life happens
Hi everyone , its been awhile, July is a hard month for me , its my birthday month as well as the month my mother died in 2021 on July 8th so its very emotional especially because this is the first year Im sober, I find myself avoiding this that IM usually gung ho about like my school work and this expert coaching class, at first I thought it was because I wasnt taking my adhd medicine ( I somehow kept forgetting to take that) and well Ive been taking it and IM still having issues so I just think its the timing of my mom and everything surrounding that. but again I hope to get back into the groove , especially because we have 1 month of school left and now is not the tie to start flaking out and losing interest which is what happens with my ADHD.
