Do You Look Like You? Headshot Resources
Hey loves, how's your headshot game? I saved you some time figuring out how to set up more professional photos: I was reminded to update mine when a new client confusedly explained their blank stare when arriving. Apparently my hair grow-out over the last year was enough to throw off their expectations. So, that's a big sign it's time to update lol. Besides, since I'm putting myself out there more and more on Linked In to connect with other professionals, it was time for an update ✨ When our clients know exactly what to expect, they actually are more comfortable and relaxed right away. I was kicking and screaming against taking pics of myself and PUBLISHING THEM on the whole internet when I started my business, but I pretty much get the process now. I understand how important it is to get reasonably confident with pictures. And it's easier to get the full benefit of the internet presence you've cultivated if you have one solid, recognizable photo of yourself, that matches across platforms. So I rummaged around for what the internet has to offer, and in case you also need to tighten up your online image, I saved what I found for you: - don't use Canva's AI generated pro headshot tool lol. - top AI headshot generators were evaluated by Jennie Lakenan specifically for the life coaching industry (which is not the same but parallel enough that we can share a lot of digital resources). Her reviews are here: https://jennielakenan.com/best-ai-headshot-generators-2025/ - I was curious about the AI options but ultimately didn't feel like using them, so I pulled together a quick shoot with my tripod and curtains. I'm NOT a photographer but I've taken a handful of little courses over the last few years to get better at generating misc selfies, so I went that route this time. (lmk if you'd like my compiled selfie tips) - I went down the internet hole a little on how to make sure we're putting our best foot forward in professional images and found this WEIRD GEM: https://www.photofeeler.com/ This is where total strangers with almost zero context rate your photo based on 1) competence 2) likeability 3) influence. The benefit here is that you get an unbiased read on the way your pic is hitting the "snap judgement" side of people's brain.... which is actually what you need to know when you're choosing between photos. My first photo came back with a lower competence grade than I felt good about putting out there, so I hit my photo set again and grabbed one with a more "competent" expression. Sure enough, the randos agreed that I look more like I know what I'm doing now lol. I'll try for a higher influence score in a few months 😉
