First Time Ever
I finished my swim lessons and tried swimming laps for the first time ever. You have to schedule the lanes and I didn't know what number was what, but when I got to the pool I told the lifeguard that it was my first time swimming laps or ever swimming in the deep end and I wanted to be next to the wall... just in case. He kindly switched me to the correct lane and ... I did it! Now I know that I can do it! I get tired really quickly because the breathing thing is hard for me when swimming freestyle. I will continue to work on that, but I am really proud after being afraid to be in water over my head for years. I am grateful for the lessons I learned from you about getting acclimated to water and swimming underwater. Also the lessons about how to breathe before even getting into the water. I believe that both those lessons helped me tremendously. The lessons they give at the Y are good but I guess they have to push everyone to the next step quickly just by the nature of things. Thank you Coach Jeff and Coach Meredith.
Poll: New Swimmer Welcome Kit!
Caribe Nation, We are considering building a 'New Swimmer Welcome Kit' that includes the goggles, caps, shammies, shampoos, body wash, ear drops, etc, that we recommend. Is this something that would help / something you would have / would consider purchasing through Caribe Swim as a trusted brand? P.S. Add comments on products I did not list that you would want to include!

@Meredith Barrington yes my hair feels really rough too and it is dry anyway without the chlorine. So I tried the swim cap thinking I wouldn't have to wash it every time. My hair is fairly short though.

I want to learn to swim better for health- that was my initial motivation. I am overweight and exercising in water doesn't hurt like out of water does. I had a stroke in 2022 and I have been working on my health since then. I started going to Aqua Zumba, which is fun, and I just started wanting to learn to swim. I would like to swim laps. I can swim a little and I can float on my back but I don't like to stick my head under water. I can relax a little in shallow water, but I am afraid I will tense up when I know the water is over my head. The only reason I can think of why I am so afraid is an experience I had as a child. My brother and a friend were playing in water that was not over their heads and I jumped in- and it was over my head. I panicked. If I hadn't I could have walked to shallower water and I would have been fine. My brother thought I was just being silly so he just laughed. His friend realized that I was really panicked and he helped me to get to shallower water. And the lifeguard yelled at me, lol.

@Jeff Wood thank you for responding to my story. I have started with the LaunchPad and look forward to overcoming my fear.

By the grace of God I was given a second chance at life in 2022. Trying to grow, face my fears, and enjoy life to the full.
