Foundations of ESD — Pilot Course is Live
Hi everyone, It means so much to me that you are part of this growing community — thank you for being here! I wanted to send a quick note in case you missed the announcement: the Founding Pilot of Foundations of ESD is now live. I’ve been building this course to help educators understand Education for Sustainable Development without treating it as something enormous, abstract, or separate from the teaching and learning they already do. Start Here and Module 1 — What Is ESD? are available now, including the course transcripts and editable Working Document. The remaining modules are currently in production and will be released progressively: - Coming next: Module 2 — See the Relationships - Module 3 — Judge What Matters - Module 4 — Frame the Inquiry - Module 5 — Design the Learning - Module 6 — Test + Revise - Finish — Foundations Design Brief The Founding Pilot is $29 as a one-time purchase. If you join during the pilot, that includes the entire course as the remaining modules are released—you won’t need to purchase them separately. Once the full course is complete, the Founding Pilot will close and the price for new learners will increase to $79. Anyone who joins during the pilot keeps access to the completed course at no additional cost. Because this is a pilot, I’ve also created a Founding Pilot Feedback thread. Feedback is completely optional, but if you participate, I’d genuinely value hearing what feels clear, useful, confusing, missing, or harder than it needs to be. Your experience can help shape the course as I continue building it. If you’ve been curious about ESD and looking for a practical place to begin, I’d love to have you be part of this first group. And if you know another educator, teacher educator, or colleague who might find the course useful, please feel free to share it with them or invite them to join us. Founding Pilot: $29 one time Start Here + Module 1 available now All future modules included as they are released I’m very glad to finally have this out in the world—and grateful to have you here while I build it. 😄

Welcome to Teaching for a Complex World
Welcome—I’m genuinely glad you’re here. Teaching for a Complex World is for educators and others who care about the world learners will inherit and want to understand where education fits within the work of creating more sustainable, just, peaceful, culturally rich, resilient, and flourishing futures. Here, I translate Education for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO’s wider educational frameworks, and systems thinking into clear questions, research-informed tools, and practical ways of looking under the hood of teaching. Music learning and teaching are my primary areas of expertise and point of entry into this work. Many of the questions and frameworks, however, can travel across subjects, professions, communities, and forms of learning. You can expect: - Short articles and voiceover videos - Research notes and works in progress - Systems questions, planning tools, and design frameworks - Honest discussion of evidence, uncertainty, and limitations - Opportunities to influence future resources, research, workshops, and professional learning The community is beginning as a free space. Some future courses, workshops, tools, or other offerings may be free or paid, depending upon interest and what is feasible. Anything optional will always be described clearly. You do not need to keep up with everything or arrive as an expert. Read quietly, ask a question, share something from your context, or respectfully challenge an idea. To introduce yourself, choose whichever question feels most natural: 1. Looking ahead: What do you hope education helps learners become capable of understanding, imagining, or doing? 2. Looking around: Where do you already see sustainability, systems thinking, cultural continuity, peace, justice, or flourishing within something you teach or care about? 3. Looking toward this community: What question, conversation, tool, or resource would make this space genuinely useful to you? A few honest sentences are enough. A question is also a perfectly good place to begin.
