𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 / 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐞 𝐀 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥?
FYI: I’m just speaking from experience… I think trying to find balance between your work and your life is like trying to find balance in any relationship. Whether in any personal or professional relationship one aspect is almost always at any period in time giving more. It’s very rare that there’s complete balance: both partners giving equally, teammates contributing equally, group members carrying the load evenly… Maybe a better goal would be to balance how we view our self-care? “I need to maintain my exercise routine because one day I’m going to need to lift more” “It’s not selfish to prioritize me because I want to be ready and available when my partner needs me.” “My health & well-being needs to be top of mind because it’s very stressful at work, and I need to be resilient enough not to bring that stress home.” “Over the years they’ve been there for me and now it’s my turn to be there for them, not because I owe them, but because I can and it’s the right thing to do.” ▪️You work very hard. ▪️You know how to get results. ▪️You commit fully to the collective goal. But are you fully committed to the goal of being the best you can be when it’s demanded of you, and then pat yourself on the back because you stepped up to the plate when you were needed and knocked it out of the park? 🤔 Wouldn’t it be better to have the confidence to give more when needed? 🤔 Know that you have the capacity to carry the load toward the goal when others can’t? 🤔 And be able to rest on your laurels because you were there when you were needed and followed through? That’ll never happen if you're not prioritizing your self-care. The energy you're putting into finding work / life balance will expire before you ever find it. But, if you put your energy into your health & well-being, working out consistently, making positive food decisions, planning your rest and recovery, there’s one thing I can promise… ✅ You’ll be ready when the time comes. ✅ You’ll be strong enough to push through and carry the load.

Because taxes & exercise were 2 topics that were highlighted at our most recent Executives Over 50 meeting…
I thought I would repost my most recent LinkedIn post. 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐏𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝? Exercise can be a lot like paying your taxes: Both require work, consistency, commitment, and sometimes sacrifice. And if you sprinkle in a little bit of ambivalence, can often feel like it's not worth the effort. You work hard to earn money so that you can take care of all of your responsibilities, which makes It harder to workout consistently. But you know that if you don't work out consistently you won't have as much energy to work hard and earn more money. You push, you pay and don’t always see the immediate payoff. You’re putting everything in… ✅ The Time ✅ The Effort ✅ The Energy ✅ The Money And thinking… “Am I really getting anything back from this?” You’re tired! It’s frustrating! You’re ambivilent! And that can start to slowly erode your desire and motivation. Because when the reward doesn’t match your expectations, you start second guessing, questioning, and looking for an out. “I’ll skip the workout today” “I can push it off until tomorrow.” “This working out is too much work.” Here’s the thing… You can’t stop spying your taxes and you shouldn’t stop working out either. Exercise, just like taxes, when they’re working the way they should build infrastructure, stability, and a system that supports your life behind the scenes. You may not see it day-to-day… But it does add up: 👍🏼 More energy 👍🏼 Improved overall confidence 👍🏼 Better focus and decision making 👍🏼 A stronger and more resilient mind and body All of the things you need to be productive at work so you can continue to make more money and yes… Pay more taxes. That’s your return on investment. With taxes, you don’t have much control over the system. But you do when it comes to keeping yourself healthy and strong so that you can continue to consistently invest in you! And ultimately you’ll create the kind of return you’re looking for no matter how much money you make and the taxes you pay.

People who succeed at improving their Health & Well-Being approach it the same way that successful business owners approach their businesses. In fact the principles are almost identical: ✅ They don’t become successful by accident; they have a clear vision and defined objectives. ✅ They don't rely on motivation; they build a repeatable system. ✅They think long-term; not on quick fixes but on lasting results. ✅ They track and measure; they don’t fly blind or guess. ✅ They keep themselves accountable; they depend on coaches, trainers, mentors, and supportive communities. ✅ They’re adaptable; they can pivot, modify, and overcome obstacles. ✅ They invest; invest time, energy, and resources. ✅ They execute; they don't hope and pray, they take action one step at a time. Successful businesses and successful health & well-being’s are both built on… Clarity, structure, consistency, accountability, long-term thinking, measurement, adaptability, and action. It’s not “𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆.” It’s disciplined execution over time. It’s an investment that has no greater return. 𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑏𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝐸𝑂 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ & 𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑙-𝐵𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦? Train Your Body, Calm Your Mind…
𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐨 𝐌𝐞!
Today I celebrate my 36th year as a health & fitness professional. On January 27th, 2020, I celebrated not only my 30th anniversary, but also the fact that I felt like I had finally built the business I had always dreamed of. I was my own boss, a true solo-prenuer, I had control over my schedule, confidently charged premium prices, and working with wonderful client’s. In great shape at a comfortable 205lbs (and very proud that I could keep my jeans up without a belt), happy, I slept like a baby knowing that I was the “Master of My Universe.” Life Was Good! 2 months later the Covid-19 pandemic hit hard and I had no choice but to shut down. All of my client’s older than 50 (some in their 70’s and 80’s) it would have been potentially life-threatening to see them in-person. Locked-down, isolated, solo I was… With no end in sight, I had to figure out how I was going to save my business. Not having much experience with the virtual world, I jumped in head first, and also let my client’s know that if they wanted to join me we’d have to figure this out together. No social media presence, a mentor, a coach, colleagues, a team or a community I could lean on… I’ve never felt so professionally alone. The long-standing relationships that I’ve been able to establish with all of my client’s is probably the thing I am most proud of, and I say with confidence is what saved my business. So it was greeted with joyous relief but not surprise, when most said they’d be willing to explore the virtual world together. The pandemic dragged on and on with no end in sight, clearly the business that I had spent 30 years building was not to return. It had to change and I had to change if we were going to survive. Sleeping like a baby no more, stressed beyond belief, and while I did not stop working out, not having access to a gym set me back. Add to that, that I was basically walking in the dark trying to figure out what were next steps to keep my business afloat. Life Was Not Good!
