At noon (GMT) today, the Swedish Academy announces the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, the biggest literary prize on the planet. The front-runner is China’s Can Xue, who was also a favourite last year and missed out. Will this be her year? India’s Amitav Ghosh is in contention too. Only one Indian has ever won it: Rabindranath Tagore, way back in 1913. And closer to home, for some of us here, Portugal’s Gonçalo M. Tavares is in the running. Only one Portuguese writer has ever won: José Saramago in 1998. Could we be about to get a second? Confession: I haven’t read any of them. Have you? 😅 Vote below 👇 and come back at noon to see if you called it!

I don't know about you, but I love seeing where people read, and write. Here's mine: the "catio" I built, never realising it would become MY reading refuge. And also Dr David Vernon's, which I spotted on social and which inspired this post. Your turn! Please post a pic of your favourite reading or writing spot in the comments 👇 (Unless it's your secret safe space, in which case I'll mind my own business!) I don't know about you, but I really like seeing where people read, and where they write, or both. (Not sure who the other avid reader is!)

Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, with a photo of a favourite book, and maybe in your favourite place to relax, read and revel. 😊 #selfie #whatareyoureading Here I am sat in the 'cateo' I made, reading a lovely memoir - Slow Blink - from soon-to-be author-in-residence Louise Ross (pictured) 😻

Our very first Author in Residence moves in next Monday 🎉 @Louise Ross is spending a week with us here at Book Ravers. She's written three books, and rather than pick one, she'll be talking about all of them and the thread that connects them. Here's how the week works: 📖 Monday 12 October: Part one of my conversation with Louise, about who she is and her books. 📖 Wednesday 14 October: Part two of the conversation. 🥂 Friday 16 October, 6pm Portugal time: Live Q&A with Louise. Bring a drink! Louise will be popping in all week to answer your questions, so ask her anything: about the books, the writing, or the life behind them. Can't wait? Drop a question for Louise in the comments now 👇 And if you know a reader who'd love this, bring them along. Membership is free for our first 100 readers. Send them this link - https://www.skool.com/book-ravers-5500/about

A mysterious glass negative in her parents' attic. That's where it all started for Cecília Matos... Between 1895 and 1917, José Bárcia photographed everyday life in Quinta do Anjo, Palmela and Setúbal. Cecília has gathered his pictures into a new book, Os Dias de José Bárcia, and I caught up with her for a quick interview about it. 🎥 [Watch the interview 👇] Authors, take note: Cecília is also an amazing book designer. If you're writing a book, especially here in Portugal, she's well worth knowing - www.cecilia-designs.com A confession… Yes, it's another Portuguese interview! It won't all be Portuguese authors, books and connections. They're just who I happen to know best. Please help me put that right... 👉 Who should we rave about next? Introduce me to authors anywhere in the world for future interviews and Author-in-Residence slots. Drop a name in the comments or DM me.
