[Solved] : Beginner looking for advice : should I keep digging open-LLM's or get the credit card to upgrade to a paying one?
Hey everyone, It's been a while since I was dreaming about a personal assistant (with very basic coding knowledge). and I discovered what truly was an AI agent and understood that it's something I can use to fulfil my wish. Though I have no budget. So I started to dig Youtube: - Self-host n8n: check - Using Ollama : check - Using Ngrok to go on the internet : check - fought with google Oauth 2 : I won And now my machine : an old macbook pro Intel. Ollama works and I find it already cool for conversation testing the different LLM's (Deepseek is giving me creepy vibe though with how it shows it's thought process). I'm using Nate's template for prompts foundation and I'm now reaching some limits: I'm managing to create events in my calendar and sometimes it's wrong in timing and duration. Though it can't delete or update my events and it just hallucinate the answer. My questions: - Is it a power problem because my computer is old? - Should I keep improving the prompt till It work or is there some trick by creating an agent for each calendar tool instead of giving all the tools to one agent? - Should I spend the money to get OpenAI or Anthropic solution to at least get some result and keep the motivation up and not give up on AI agent - Or buy a new computer adapted for my need? Does anyone have experience with getting a personal assistant working an intel processor i7 2,5GHz and AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2 Go? My thought is just get claude or chatGPT and then get yourself a VPS to get your first success with AI agent in general and go back to Open LLM's a bite later when you have power to run them Thank you very much for your advices, Byron PS: I placed it in general discussion because of how broad the topic seems. Let me know if I should place it in another category!

@James Walls Thank you very much for the Open router option that I discovered thanks to you. I'm just starting I get faster results now with the free option that are very downgraded for the models that support tool usage. Question : is there a workflow possible to enable the higher level LLMs like free Llama 4 maverick that doesn't allow tool usage in the AI agent but to make them write a nice Json that another smaller LLM then can just use to make the process smooth in the AI agent. Well I'm exploring this option right now see if it works. In case, you or someone else has had prior experience with it.

@Willie Booker Hey man, I believe you made the wrong manipulation and you should remove this comment. It seems that it needs it's own post if you are looking for answers. Because this topic has nothing to do with the advanced skill you have and need right now. Have a good day
Whats the solution
Hello everyone , hope you all are doing great . I am learning about n8n and get optimum thoertical knowledge of it . but when i went to apply this knowledge and create some projects i found almost everthing is paid but being a college student i cant effort it right now as i am just in learning phase , is there anyone who also faces this problem and stuck there ... and have the solution of it then please help me out. Thanks Waiting for your help. Saarthak

Hey welcome to the club! You can self host n8n for free on your computer by either using Docker or npx you decide here. Then if you need to go online (because this first part will be local on your computer) use Ngrok Then if you go for AI agents: look at open-source LLMs using Ollama for example also stored on your computer. If you lack power on your computer like I do I'm currently exploring OpenRouter where they provide some free downgraded version of LLMs (you will need some more pormpt engineering there to make them work better) Feel free to ask ore questions. Here youtube will be your infinite source of tutorial to get it to work and it will be down to workflow and prompt. Happy learning to you!
Errors with AI Agent Tools
Hello, has anyone ever had the error 'The tool input received did not match the expected schema' on the AI โ€‹โ€‹Agent node? Lately I've been getting this error frequently whenever I need to process a tool, using an OpenAI model (through OpenAI node and OpenRouter) and with Gemini Flash. Does anyone have any explanation or how to solve this? Is it a problem with LangChain itself?

Hey, I've been receiving the same error. Seems like automatically after the system message, n8n adds formatting instructions after the user prompt and I believe this create confusion for the agent. I've seen a post about it on n8n community (lost the link will try to find it back) though no one was able to solve it there so far. It may or may not be because of the new version of the AI agent. Seems like it's 1.8 right now and it's not possible to go down to 1.7 anymore. I will try that with a template from Nate where it still uses older version of the AI agent. I will try to keep you updated

Hey, glad to be here! I'm Byron in France. I'm a beginner in AI. Started tinkering with it 2 weeks ago. I'm an mechanical engineer who has a lot of passions and hope as a first step to create some cool system to help myself regrow a business and then if I can share this new knowledge to help others, that would be awesome. See you all in the posts!
