"Contentment fuels generosity." Ask Yourself: Did I focus more on what I lack or what I have? Think About: How would gratitude change tomorrow?

Reflective Writing Piece
A theme of 'Expectations' came up during tonight's Check-in. I wrote this 8 years ago. Would love to hear your POV on what this brings up for you. EXPECTATIONS AND AMBITIONS How do they form? What comes first? How are we influenced and by who? Expectations form from as early as birth. You are expected to grow into a perfect human being, everyone is. Even before birth, expectations of who you are going to become. A baby is expected to be a sleeping, non-crier, that eats everything. What is expected of you now? By who is it expected? Self-expectation is a driver of anxiety and depression, failing to meet or exceed your own expectations can get anyone down. Try to make goals that don't require measured expectations. Make sure you expect your expectations to change. Think about the expectations you have of people in your life. What emotions will you feel if those expectations aren't met? What emotions will they feel if they fail to meet those expectations? Don't be too ambitious with your expectations. Expectations can destroy ambitions. Expectations can destroy people. People spend their whole lives living up to the expectations of others. People spend their whole lives living up to their own expectations. Develop expectations that can evolve with you as you go through life. There are no definites. The ultimate freedom is to be free of expectation.

@Owen Robinson 👏🏽 Mate this is some powerful stuff! Thanks for sharing. As I was reading it, all I could think about and see was the passing of heavy expectations from my Nonno, through my father, to me, and now to my eldest son 🤯🤦🏽‍♂️ Most days I feel like I’m being very harsh on my 6yo because of high expectations. I need to check myself more often.
