Business is tough.
We are owner/operators so we are carriers and also dispatch our drivers. Our driver just totaled a truck we are leasing. We are just devastated. We were already at $14,000 revenue just this month. We were getting really good at dispatching. We are just so upset. Mind you, this is the second driver we have had to get into an accident and essentially put us out of business. We’ve been in the business for 1.5 years at the point. Almost out of the hell period and pretty much not getting turned down because our MC is too young. And then this happens. Just seems like we cannot catch a break.

Insurance
Are there any carriers in here willing to share which insurance provider you use and what you pay monthly?

Cannot catch a break
My husband and I started our trucking company about 6 months ago and decided to hire a driver and dispatch him. We hired a family friend that didn’t work out for various reasons. We just hired a new driver and the first day on the job he had a load to a Texas Air Force base and they denied him entry. We background checked him and everything came back fine other than the fact that his SSN trace showed a different name assigned to him. We ended up losing the load. On top of that, he was driving and had to apply brakes abruptly and hard so the freight we had moved and broke the e tracks. Then the route we had coming back from Texas was cancelled. This is just one of many instances where something has gone wrong and we have ended up losing money. The fact is, the business is sucking more money than we can afford right now. We have self funded this business and now we are pretty much broke. I am just so discouraged
Scheduling loads
As a dispatcher, how far in advanced do schedule your carrier’s loads? My husband is often trying to get loads as soon as he drops one off. I feel like he should be working ahead. For example, today he dropped off a load from Sparta Illinois (picked up on friday) to Panama Beach FL. He waited until he dropped off the load this morning to look for other loads but couldn’t find anything. It just doesn’t feel like the best strategy. We really need a dispatcher but feel like we can’t afford it so are trying to do everything ourselves.

@Mazhar Farid he says load boards just don’t post ahead of time

I've started paying a ton of attention to these recently when they come to my email. It's good information.
