Here is a 💰6K+ lesson I gained witnessing my mom’s 1st and LAST time she drove our Dodge F-450…🛻 It was a hot summer day, and we were in a hurry to go shopping. Mom borrowed the truck and packed up mos of us kids in the back seat. We pulled up to the local Chevron gas station, with the diesel pumps in the back. She put the black nozzle in like normal, I was excited because filling up meant we got a free soda. I live for Rootbeer. We fueled up then as we drove off the engine made some awful sputtering sound that escalated with hissing, and buzzing like an angry hornet was under the hood until the truck choked on thick black smoke and died.💀☠️😵 We didn't make it half a mile before the engine seized on us and “futzed out”. We were stranded by the Basin Drive-in Movie theatre less than a mile from home. My dad had always fueled it just like my mom, but he was the expert who drove that truck and he didn't pass on the process to fuel the truck up with diesel quite right. My mom thought she had followed the process correctly, but just because your pump has the capacity to pump diesel doesn’t mean it is automatically selected to do it. Once push of the wrong button proved she obviously hadn't paid close enough attention. A tow truck, a few weeks without a truck and almost five grand later resulting from a complete Engine rebuild taught us that the wrong fuel in the tank means the engine doesn’t work. A good way to know you’re getting famous is when your signature turns into an autograph. I'm doint a book signing tomorrow at my local Barnes and Noble so this concept was on my mind... An autograph isn't about making the material 'precious'... it’s about making the receiver feel special and anchoring that moment, making a memory.
