Don't Build Wealth; Build Character
So, I have been on a journey of learning something which the Lord has been teaching me for many years. It can be summed up this way, "Show me a man's habits and I will show you a man's future." I heard a millionaire say this to the guy on the School of Hard Knocks fb page. My natural default mindset throughout my life has been to perpetually live in the creative clouds. I used to despise habits and routine. I have learned that to achieve the things my mind comes up with in the creative clouds, I must build daily habits. Easier said than done for a guy like me! I recently thought of it like this. Wealth is not something a person should focus on as their main pursuit. Desire it for God's glory? Sure! But then set your hand to the plow of daily plodding, living for the Lord and being diligent with what he has given you. I think wealth is more like the wake of a boat. It is something that trails behind good habits. If I want wealth (even so that I can use if to be generous to others) then I must not seek to create the wealth without daily habits, for then even if it comes my way, my lack of daily habits will squander it. Instead build the character that produces wealth, and the wealth will be genuine. So if we are still caught up in the struggle, let us be grateful. For the struggle is building character in us that will ensure that when we are blessed with wealth, it will be something that serves our good, our family's good, and the glory of God. Thoughts?
