Good Mornin' VA Peeps!
I've been working my way through the VA Blueprint, and even though I set a launch date for September 4th, 2026, my ADHD hyperfocus kicked in and I'm already through to Module 8 ( I also did some things before the course became available). I'm at the point, where we are talking about social media and whatnot. Things like LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram were mentioned as possible starting points. I'm curious what people think about using YouTube as their main starting social media? Is their specific reasons for not doing it first? Have a great day ya'll!

@Erin Booth , thank you. Yeah in answer to your questions: 1) Yes I have. I'm really feeling pulled towards working with other creatives, especially videographers and content creators since I went to school for film for a short while. 2) I think more of the pro video people will be going to YT more in the coming year because I heard YT is trying to gain more market share of TV viewing audiences. 3) My initial thought for my channel would be about my journey to starting this VA business from the perspective of a Black American during this tumultuous economy. I would also talk about creative entrepreneurship topics from a Black American perspective, but not narrowly aimed at just that audience. If that makes sense? My friends and family are all on Facebook and Instagram, so I could start there. I'm just weighing out my options right now.
Hey Folks, I'm New Here
My name is Brandon, I'm 47, and I'm starting my journey to become a freelance VA. I was laid off from my corporate tech job at the end of January after giving them 9 (almost 10) years. After my severance pay ended, I decided to pivot from trying to start a relationship coaching business, to starting a VA business where my impostor syndrome would be less loud about, lol. Although, it's still kinda there as I don't have any credentialed "expertise"; just 30 years of work experience over broad swath of customer service, communications and logistics coordination jobs. I'm excited for this opportunity and nervous. I've followed Erin for a little bit and she just felt the most genuine and down to earth of all the VA course teachers, so I'm here to head all her wisdom and hear any feedback ya'll can offer! I'm happy to contribute and help in any way I can! Peace! 😊

@Erin Booth My focus at the job I just got laid off from? Well I did about 5 years as a technical and account support specialist. Basically, I helped the people who came to install or fix your cable equipment, troubleshoot problems over the phone or I fixed problems with people's cable accounts on the back end. Then they moved me over to routing for almost 5 years, where I would route and dispatch customer cable appointments to about 20-40 different technicians out in the field. So yeah, I can use a ton of different office applications and software. I can communicate with just about anyone in and out of high pressure situations. I can organize an inbox and put appointments in calendars. But I don't have any certifications or specializations in those areas. I took the same basic job training class that 100 other fellow employees did and I just followed those instructions. If you were to ask me to teach a class on communication, customer service or coordinating things, I would be just giving you the same answers or frameworks you could get from a Google search or AI query. That's what I meant by expertise, I don't know if I have anything that can make me stand out. I could give my anecdotes and stories about one-off situations, but that's about it. Lol
