fertilizer question
There is so much information out there regarding the do's and don'ts of fertilizing. This fertilizer for vegetative growth then this fertilizer for blooming and fruiting...ahhh...what's a girl to do? I know procedures differ depending on if you grow indoors or outdoors, in ground or containers and in soil or hydroponically but does anyone have suggestions or recommendations on what they use and do? Also, if you start feeding your plants one brand of fertilizer, can you switch to another if the nutrient formula is similar, or do you have to continue with the same fertilizer brand? For context, I am growing cucumbers, sweet peppers and cherry tomatoes in buckets with air stones. I'm growing indoors in grow tents with lights and fans. I'm using Masterblend Tomato and Vegetable formula 4-18-38. Should I be using a different formula when the plants start blooming and fruiting? Thanks

@Beth E That's great information Beth and you're right about growing being a little more complicated than we think. It gives me a lot more respect for the small scale farmers who provide us with food! Thank you for taking the time to answer. I really appreciate it. 😊
Eliminating Chloramine and Chlorine for Hydroponics
I just came across some information for eliminating chloramine from my tap water. My city uses chloramine rather than chlorine, and unlike chlorine, leaving the water sit for 24 hours does not get rid of it. (Chloramine is a combination of ammonia and chlorine). It also eliminates chlorine and stabilizes pH levels. The article I read advises to use a water conditioner in my tap water prior to watering my plants. It's similar to what is used in aquariums. If anyone has tried this for their hydroponic plants, let me know. FYI... I also understand you can also use ascorbic acid but I found the calculations for adding to the water was too complicated. PS...I live on the 18th floor of an apartment building in Ontario, so hydroponics is my only option in the winter. Come summer, the balcony is my urban garden.

@Gillian El Deeb Installing a RO system is a great way to have better water! Unfortunately, for me, the apartment I live in won't allow this type of system to be installed.... correction, I can have it installed, but if I move, they said I'd have to replace the whole countertop and kitchen sink so a bottle of water conditioner is the cheaper way to go for me. It's crazy what we do to grow isn't it?😊

@Gillian El Deeb lol, I hear you... although I no longer have my TG I still grow hydroponically, but I've progressed to bucket style, air stones, tents, lights, fans etc.... I joke with my friends that overall "my salads are only costing me about $400 now". 🤣
