A question about CAGED. I have a basic knowledge of the 5 CAGED chordsin the 5 positions although they are far from perfect. I am also aware of the boxes having pentatonic and major scales plus obviously the triads but Im not fluent at finding them and dont really know how to use them as in chord tones etc. How important is the above to play the blues.

@Ben Johnsen Yes to a certain extent. But when I attempted to learn CAGED, I only managed to learn the numerous CAGED chords, some of them very hard to play and never really saw how to find the triad notes using the system. I didn't find it helped me find individual notes all over the fretboard.
Anything else?
Would you guys ever be interested in learning any other genres or styles in this group, other than blues? I love the blues, and I love teaching it, but I also enjoy playing other genres. So I'm just curious if you feel the same. I'd love to hear your thoughts. If there's anything I haven't included, feel free to add to the comments. P.S. I find a lot of these bands can't be pigeonholed into one genre, so it's anyone's guess! Try to define Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, or Steely Dan!

If I ever master Blues music, I would be interested in other music later, but at the moment I am struggling with Blues. If I ever master Blues, I may move on to Blues/Rock, Blues slide guitar and I also like music played by the Shadows.

Hi all, I'm Michael from Sheffield close to the Peak District. I started playing guitar nearly 60 years ago aged 15 on a guitar I made at school. I graduated to a Gibson Les Paul in 1970. I also had keyboard lessons but both guitar and keyboards fell by the wayside when I started to travel for a number of years, then marriage and work left them gathering dust. Around the start of Covid, I started to reconnect with guitar but had no real direction, so didn't make much progress. I am the full-time carer of my disabled wife which takes up so much of my time. Guitar fits between earlymornings mountain biking in the peak district and caring responsibilities. About two years ago I decided to try to just learn Blues music like John Mayalls band members like Clapton, Peter Green and the three kings and Otis Rush etc. I have learned a bit too much theory and now want to learn something more blues related fun like songs and improving etc. Ben's Peter Green short videos caught my eye and that led to me being here. Although the house is full of musical instruments, books, CDs, its a bit of a mess, so never taken a photo of it. I currently have a helix LT, Kemper (not used yet) and lots of pedals. Also like Hank Marvin.
