Advice needed! Making own canvas!
Hi everyone, I’ve been feeling for a while that I want to paint BIG 😂 But I’m also still developing as an artist that I don’t really want to spend big bucks on giant canvases. So I’m thinking I could make my own (just add another thing to my creative to do list 😂). Has anyone made their own and have any tips or tricks to help? I’d be grateful for any advice 🙏🏽 Picture of one of my tiny paintings for some attention 😂😆 Help get out of the tiny phase!!

@Jim Serchak well whatever you want to call it, I still have large canvases that I stretched this same way in college 32 years ago. They still look great and have never needed to be tightened even after moving 6 times.
ART GOAL SETTING CHALLENGE
What do you want to achieve creatively this year? Take time to reflect on your artistic dreams, skills, and creative growth. Write down: • 3 small art goals(Examples: draw weekly, try new materials, improve shading) • 3 big art goals(Examples: complete a portfolio, sell artwork, create your own style) Why it matters:Setting creative goals helps you grow, stay inspired, and turn ideas into reality. Challenge yourself:Create more. Fear less. Dream bigger. Great artists are built through small daily actions and bold creative visions. ❤️ Put your goals where you can see them every day to keep yourself motivated.

@Hannah Contreras ooo yes, that happened to me on my last painting. So I painted over the part that was toooooo precious and it was 100 times better when I was finally done! It was so hard to do though!

@Hannah Contreras it needed it! Here’s a WIP video. It definitely transformed it after painting over it because it gave me the freedom to make completely different marks rather than fiddling with what was there already
Challenge! Show Up & Create
Most artists don’t fail because of talent. They disappear. So let’s fix that. New challenge: Show Up & Create → 3x per week→ for 30 days→ post whatever you made (finished or messy) Rules: - No perfection - No overthinking - Just proof you showed up - Miss a day? Don’t quit. Just continue. This is about becoming someone who creates. Not someone who waits. I’m in too. Who’s joining?

WIP of a driftwood artifact piece! I love the 30 day idea, makes it a manageable challenge. I would join but I’m getting married in two weeks!!
Pricing!? How much do you ask? 💰
Tell me about your art! 🎨 What do you charge, and for what size? Are you working in oils or acrylics? On paper or canvas? And have you already made some sales? Let’s learn from each other 💪🏼

My murals go for $30(USD) per square foot, $1000 minimum. Canvas paintings are 60 cents per square inch, minimum $100, and driftwood sculptures about 30-40 cents per square inch depending on difficulty plus about 20% if it has resin, minimum $100. Pricing by size keeps everything easy for clients to understand and prevents me from making something that I love too expensive and something I don’t too cheap! Plus it makes it easy to quote commissions and scale to budget.

@Valérie Van Kraaij yes definitely murals. But also the trade off is a much more ridgid timeline which is challenging since I work full time as well!
