How to Play Blackjack
Blackjack is one of the most exciting casino games out there—fast-paced, full of quick decisions, big wins on a single hand, and that thrilling rush when you beat the dealer with a perfect 21. It's called "21" for a reason, and once you get the basics down, you'll feel the adrenaline every time the cards flip. The GoalBeat the dealer by getting a hand total closer to 21 than theirs—without going over 21 (that's a "bust," and you lose instantly). You don't compete against other players; it's just you vs. the dealer.Card Values (Super Simple) - Numbers 2–10 = face value - Jack, Queen, King = 10 each - Ace = 1 or 11 (whichever helps your hand most—flexible!) A hand with an Ace is "soft" if the Ace is 11 (e.g., Ace-6 = soft 17). It becomes "hard" if you have to count the Ace as 1 to avoid busting. How a Hand Plays Out 1. Place your bet in the circle in front of you before cards are dealt. 2. The deal — Everyone (including you) gets two cards face up. The dealer gets one card face up (the "upcard") and one face down (the "hole card"). 3. Blackjack! If your first two cards total exactly 21 (Ace + 10-value card), you have a natural blackjack. Most casinos pay 3:2 (bet $10, win $15) right away—unless the dealer also has blackjack (then it's a push/tie). That's the big exciting payout that hooks everyone! 4. Your turn — Starting from the player left of the dealer, you decide what to do. You can: Hit → Take another card (signal by tapping the table). Stand → Keep your current total (wave your hand over your cards or say "stand"). Double Down → Double your bet, take exactly one more card, then stand (great when you have a strong hand like 10 or 11). Split → If your two cards are a pair (e.g., two 8s), split into two separate hands, match your original bet on the second hand, and play each one independently. (Always split Aces; never split 10s!) Surrender (if offered) → Give up half your bet and fold the hand—saves money on bad spots. 5. Dealer's turn — After all players finish, the dealer flips their hole card and must follow strict rules: Hit on 16 or less. Stand on 17 or more. (Some tables: dealer hits soft 17—check the felt!) 6. Winners & losers — You beat the dealer → Win even money (1:1, bet $10 win $10). Tie (push) → Get your bet back. You bust → Lose your bet. Dealer busts → You win (even if your hand is low).
