I was a broke, freckle-faced 10-year-old boy... I was the oldest of 4 kids... My mom was single... And broke too. But I didn't let that stop me. I figured out what I now call: "A Gravel to Gold Sitch" Let's come back to that... One of my "income streams" was painting curb numbers for homeowners and renters whose addresses were either faded or completely gone. I knew my "pitch" wasn't a pretty address number. It WAS not getting COLD PIZZA because the pizza guy couldn't find your address. It WAS the ambulance, police, or fire department that found their home when every SECOND COUNTS. I'd charge $5 to $10, depending on whether I painted one or two numbers for them. (some wanted the number on both sides of the entry) Now... My investment for materials... Was about $10 to get fresh stencils, paint brushes and black and white paint. (From memory, this was a few decades ago 😁) I could paint about 10-12 address numbers from my $10 investment. Which meant $50 to $60 + tips for revenue. A $10 investment with a $60 return for an afternoon in 1977 was pretty solid. A lot of men/women were not making that... This is what I call the "Gravel to Gold Sitch"... Paint and the supplies are GRAVEL. I had the PROCESS: Take the paint and turn it into address numbers so the pizza guy and emergency services could find homes fast. Once I turned the paint into an address number on a curb... I turned a little bit of paint (gravel) into (gold)... NOW... If You Think That The money Was The Gold... HUGE MISPERCEPTION Don't get me wrong... It bought Snickers bars, walkie-talkies, and other stuff when I was 10 years old... But that wasn't the GOLD REALLY. (Hang on tight for a sec.) So... Here was my big fat problem. I was a broke kid. My mom was broke. How did I get my "start-up" capital? I PRE-SOLD! I'd knock doors and when I got a "YES."... I just had them PAY ME UPFRONT... Then I'd bike it to the hardware store and buy my supplies! I still PRE-SELL most stuff to THIS DAY as a 58-year-old.

The gold was the list. Every door you knocked, every "yes" you collected — that's a list of homeowners who trust a kid enough to hand him money before the work is done. You could go back to those same doors with a different service. You could refer someone else to those doors. You knew who pays, who tips, who says yes fast. The $60 bought Snickers bars and was gone by next week. The list of addresses and relationships is a reusable asset that compounds. Income follows assets, and the first asset is always the list of people who raised their hand. It also maps perfectly to what you do today with newsletters — the newsletters are a list, and you option them before you own them, pre-sell sponsorships to fund the purchase, and the list (not the revenue) is the real acquisition target.

Howdy from the dorky new guy 👋
That's me. 10,103 feet up a mountain. In a snow storm. My wife snapped the pic while I was “pausing to take in the view” (read: wheezing, trying not to die). She's contractually obligated to think I'm manly and cool. 😂 Now… If I were doing this intro by the book…I'd list off my resume and try REAL hard to make a good first impression. But… I'm not really a "by the book" kinda guy. So instead I'll just be straight with you: "Hi, I'm Jay Beckham. I'm from Texas, I've got a wife and two perpetually-hungry kiddos, and I ride the dork bus." If it's cool with you… over the next few days I'd like to pull up (in my big dork bus) and get to know y'all a little better. FIRST confession: I am a full-blown BBQ nerd. 🤓 Not "I own a grill" nerd. I'm talking 16-hour brisket smokes, trimming the fat cap like a surgeon, watching muscle fibers relax so I know the exact second to pull it. It's half art, half science, and 100% an excuse to stand outside poking a fire all day. Here's the dorky part though… A brisket takes 12 to 16 HOURS. That's a long time to just stare at smoke. So I figured out how to make money WHILE I'm out there poking the fire. I build little AI agents. Tools that do the work I used to chain myself to a desk for. While I'm babysitting the smoker like it’s my 3rd kid… one of my agents is out finding partners. Another's replying to leads and booking coffee dates. Another one's running a BEAMer campaign. I'm out back with a beer and a meat thermometer, and my phone buzzes: another sale. 😂 It got kinda ridiculous this week, honestly. We're up hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park right now (again). And while I'm out on the trail with the fam… I've got my AI tools building AI tools back home (the kind that help me lock up MORE deals). I check my phone between switchbacks, nudge the project along, keep hiking. By the time we're back at the cabin, the thing's basically built. That's the part nobody tells you about this AI stuff: the whole POINT of it isn't to keep you glued to the keyboard.

That's gotta be Rudy's barbeque. We drive down to Lockhart for Terry Black's, although there is one in Austin-proper.

But I've got some Rainmakers that are so damn good they... 👉Do their thing 👉Make it rain for ya 👉You send them money AFTER it hits your account. Would you like me to interview a few on Zoom? ...then after you watch you can get in touch whenever you need a 6 or 7-figure cash infusion...

@Abe K Serious comment to your joke. If you think about it, kindergarten skills are actually what would help people with this sorta stuff. How to play well together and with open, curious minds.

@Tony Teegarden You give yourself credit for sixth-grade emails on your Substack, though, so it seems like you're movin' on up!

Howdy Rockstar! I'm thrilled to see ya! If you're a course creator, coach, digital marketer or expert... With courses, books, digital programs or just valuable EXPERIENCE... I've discovered the best investment in the world is CONTENT I control and produce. Our goal here is to... 🥇Turn your courses, content and coaching experience into an investment portfolio that sends you royalty checks for life. We have a toolbox of tools to take your content and turn it into cash flow. One of our handiest tools is licensing. It's like the electric guitar in our rock band. New to licensing for royalties? No sweat. I'll walk you thru... You can turn your "old hit" courses, content, programs and any intellectual property into recurring royalties and more fans too! I'm rolling up my sleeves to share... ...the next level of financial leverage for coaches, course creators, consultants and true experts who want to UNCLOG their calendars, STOP trading their time for money and would love to: - Stack long-term and DEPENDABLE Recurring royalties - Generate Buyers Leads FREE! - Automate Sales and NEW customers around the world. - Reach Brand New Markets (without ads or more content creation) All by repurposing your content... ... and making it EASY for other businesses to license your hit content and IP you've already created and own! If there's a faster and easier way to bolt on 8 figures in royalties, I don't know what it is! Because... If we set it up correctly and choose the right licensees, our licensees do all (or most) of the selling for us. We get brand-new leads, customers and royalties like clockwork without the wheels coming off our business and lives. We often close 5- and 6-figure licensing deals in DMs in less than 15 minutes. I'd love to hear from you. Please introduce yourself! When you do, you unlock your first courses in the classroom... ===>Turn OLD COURSES into NEW MONEY

Have you noticed that new things age faster than old things? I'm here from the Ronin / Shogun / Mojo territories and if this is part of the game, I have to be here too.
