Welcome New Members!
I want to thank all of the new members for joining. There's a good mix of contractors and marketers here, and all are welcome to learn and share. I've been using this community as a brain dump for almost a year now, and I'd love to have some meaningful discussions. What do you want to see in this space? More marketing tactics? Software recommendations? Weekly live Q & As?

@Michael MacKrell that's an interesting niche that I haven't tapped into yet, but I do agree that a lot of money is lost after quotes are sent. That's why I lean so heavily into quality over quantity. You're right that anyone can generate leads. The ones that turn into booked jobs are more frequently a result of good branding and marketing that build trust before the property owner even contacts the business. A lead is a lead, plain and simple. That's a person showing interest and allowing contact to be established. But there are good leads and bad leads. Bad leads typically see an ad and click a button, never to be heard from again. Good leads are oftentimes ready to buy from that company before they even become a lead. The difference comes back to trust. Some other tactics that I know help with converting after the quote goes out: 1) Use a quote format that speaks plainly to the consumer's needs --AI can be trained to do this very well with the right inputs 2) Set clear expectations for next steps, including scheduling the follow up meeting 3) Offering financing to support capital limitations 4) Don't look like a one-man show that might disappear tomorrow As for software recommendations, I'm all about solutions. So if there's a way to solve a problem by adding software with process around it, I don't think it's a bad topic to cover. One of my clients just needed a spreadsheet to keep track of cash payments and who was holding money. Some guys need a CRM/field service management. Others need to offer financing to track and convert more leads. But I am all for hearing what software doesn't work and why so that we can all try to avoid bad outcomes. The split in this group is about 50/50 between marketers and contractors. The whole idea here is to support whoever is responsible for growth in blue collar businesses, regardless of their background.

Booking jobs just got a whole lot easier!
Welp... my fellow nerds have gone and done it. You can now get AI to automatically handle inbound calls and book jobs for you while still having the option to answer if you're available. Without changing carriers too! Don't want to let it handle bookings? No problem. It will still take down customer info so you can follow up ASAP. This is one of the biggest opportunities for home services pros in the last decade. Remember, if you can't always get to the phone right away, somebody else will. And all you have to do is land an extra 1 or 2 jobs a month to make it a worthwhile investment.

I know, I know. People want to talk to a real person. And they will, right after they get qualified 😁
What holds most small businesses back
Inaction is the #1 killer of small businesses. If there's a problem that's holding back growth, it's your job as the CEO to fix it. That doesn't mean you need to roll up your sleeves and try to do every single task yourself. It's quite the opposite, really. If you don't have enough time to do jobs, hire a technician. If you don't have enough leads, hire a marketer. If you don't know how to handle your books, hire a bookkeeper. If your day-to-day is absolute chaos or you're having trouble keeping track of what's going on, you can get a CRM for under $100/mo. These are all just examples. The point is that if you know there's a problem holding you back, you need to do the math. Figure out the cost of not fixing it. If you can pay 10-20% of what it's costing you every year... FIX IT!
