Check in
2 short walks today. I can feel my hip but it’s way better than a week ago. About to hit up Strava and give kudos to everyone in the Million Mile Challenge and Sober Endurance groups. Gave some encouragement to my wife for something she did today that was hard for her. Another day without a hangover and going to bed sober 💪

5/4 - walking as I post. Got back to strength training. I was only off 2 or 2.5 weeks but daaaamn I could tell right after the lunges I’m gonna be sore! Hip still feeling good, getting the itch to run but I really want to give it this second week off. Thinking about not eating processed meat, maybe this 90 days is a good time to try it. Another hangover free day where I’m not on the will I drink / should I drink / how much will I drink hamster wheel. Grateful

5/5 - just a regular ole day today. Found time to walk. Went to my AA home group meeting, got to meet a new person. A good friend celebrated 16 years sober. He’s got a cool story of going staunch atheist to firm believer in a higher power. Talked about how opening up to others usually allows them to help us see the forest and not focus on the few trees. Hip hurts a little more today I think from single leg deadlifts yesterday. Next time I’ll do normal ones not single leg. Enjoyed a University of Tennessee baseball game with my family. Diet & hydration were good. Oh and I can comment again on Strava! Off to make sure everyone gets kudos.
Day One Goals and Check In
Hey, everyone! Doug here. I’ve been sober over a decade and have been trying to be a better person physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally ever since. I’m excited for for this program because I’ve fallen into wild inconsistency with my physical activity and can get spotty with some of my other disciplines also. My goals for this 90 days are really about consistency and accountability. I want to check in each day and give an update on the 6 core 90 proof tenets, regardless of good or bad. I want to get back to running 4 or 5 days a week, strength training with my trainer a couple times a week, and keeping lots of yin/restorative yoga in the mix. A bonus would be some hot yoga and core fire (a Pilates class in the hot yoga room). Running-wise, I’m not trying to force anything crazy. I just want to rebuild my aerobic base with lots of easy running, a speed and tempo session every week or two and better long-run fueling. Diet is a big one for me too. I fall off the healthy eaten wagon so often. I need to track my food again, focus on my protein goals, fuel properly, and stop acting like Nerds Juicy Gummy Clusters are a food group. I’m not in my best shape right now, I’m nowhere near my worst either. I was once 350 lbs and near death from alcohol, so I know what starting over really means. I’m grateful to be here and ready to show up. Here’s day 1 (I may be a little verbose today): (1) No alcohol I did not drink today. I know some of you are having this as your major struggle. I’m extremely grateful I’ve been able to string together over a decade of sobriety one day at a time. My journey started in AA and I was lucky to find an amazing sponsor who remains one of my best friends and life advisors to this day. I know AA isn’t for everyone but it helped me greatly early on. Nowadays I strengthen my sobriety through therapy, meditation, and trying to help others get and stay sober. (2) Movement I got out for about 5k this morning and took my dog for a walk/run in the afternoon. I also was able to get to a yin yoga and myofascial release class tonight. I’m very happy with this today as I haven’t had many days like this at all this year.

Hey Joey! Glad you’re here. Where are you from?
Welcome!!
This only works if you follow the system. Not perfectly. But consistently. You don’t need to figure out 90 days. You figure out today. Your only job right now is to introduce yourself and we’ll take it from there. I’m glad you’re here! Vinny

To add a little bit more.. I’ve been sober 11 years. AA has worked and continues to work for me. I live in the Knoxville TN area and work at a local bank. I was a pretty high level high school & college middle distance runner, then didn’t run too much better ages 25 & 44. Last 2 years I’ve gotten much more into running and am competitive in the local masters scene. It’s been fun & a good way for me to focus my energy. I’m married with 3 kids ages 19, 17, & 15. They all do track too so it’s all track all the time at my house.

@Scott Sander Cool. I like REI. Don’t shop there a ton because it’s expensive but if I want great quality that’s the spot for sure!
