Board of Directors vs. Advisory Board
Does anyone have a good resource or explanation to describe the difference in roles/responsibilities of the Board of Directors vs. an Advisory Board. I've seen many organizations with both, but I don't quite understand the distinction. Thank you!

I received some great advice while forming KFG to have separate advisors and directors. I wrote that into our bylaws and can share if you’re interested. KFG has 3 directors & 4 officers, but several advisors who I require to serve on at least one committee. I view our advisory board like a bench for future directors. They either can’t commit the time needed or lack experience or the entrepreneurial drive needed to help us attract more traditional board members someday.

@Toby Prudhomme Thanks, Toby. We worked through some issues yesterday with the help of Vince and a few others. Two of us were just able to make it work. Can you try clearing your cache? Or let me know what browser you’re using if that still doesn’t work? I appreciate the help!

Thanks Toby. I think when I shared it was before we had the link ready. I’ll update now. Thanks again!
Welcome to The Social Media Exchange!
This group exists to amplify nonprofit voices and build meaningful engagement across all platforms. Here's how we operate: Ground Rules: 1. Share your nonprofit's latest social media posts from any platform (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, etc.) 2. When you post, commit to engaging with others: Follow other nonprofit accounts Like and comment on their posts; Repost/share content that aligns with your mission. 3. Include with your submission: Platform link Brief context about your organization Any specific engagement you're seeking Tags to help members find relevant content 4. The Law of Circulation applies: The more engagement you provide to others, the more your content will receive in return. 5. Keep content mission-focused: This exchange exists to advance impact, not personal promotion. Let's build a community where nonprofit leaders can efficiently grow their digital presence while forming valuable connections with aligned organizations. The KFG Project’s kickoff event is this Saturday so our marketing committee started the socials a few weeks ago and now creating content to build awareness and bring in traffic. Next share will be an ABC news interview airing on Thursday and we’re recording Saturdays event to bulk up material for future posts. These videos are from an interview submitted as part of a grant application last month. My challenge...
There are many challenges, but the main one is time. There aren't enough hours in the day to manage retiring from AD, starting a new job, starting a nonprofit, planning fundraisers, being a parent, and responding to the emails and offers to collaborate, all while I try to assemble a board of directors and advisors who are willing to sacrifice their time, talents and energy into my passion project. I feel like a burden on others trying to get them to plan, communicate and form committees. We have a major fundraiser and go live in April but there is much work to be done. I've hired an assistant that I'm paying out of pocket but so far the ROI is incredible, but I need volunteers. Everything takes time but there's simply not enough of it right now.
