Genesis 1
Hi Bill, I am struggling with Genesis 1. We see God creating all of the plants on day three. But, they do not have the kind of light for photosynthesis. On day four God creates the sun, which would allow photosynthesis and keep the plants alive. Some say that a day to God is like 10,000 for us, and that when we see “day” that it’s not to be taken literally. Can you explain how the plants were created and lived before sunlight?

Hi Gina, Yes this is the big debate about creation. Was it a literal 6 days or was it over 6000 years. If it was over 6000 years than yes the plants could not make it. I believe the text show 6 literal days. so the plants could receive light the NEXT day. Exodus tell us Exodus 20:8-11 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. If you think 1 day is like 1000 years than the Sabbath could be a 1000 year rest! The Hebrews would NEVER understand the 6 days of creation to be anything other than sun down to sun down. The day or YOM, word for day in Genesis 1 is a literal, 24-hour day
Lesson from Proverbs 1
I started the classroom section on Proverbs. Proverbs 1, it left me with these words, "the waywardness of the simple will kill them...whoever listens to God will live in safety".

How This Community Works
Bible teaching and sermons are freely available. This community exists for deeper discipleship — applying Scripture to real life in ways that cannot be fully covered in a Sunday service. Those who want depth, structure, and practical application will find it here.
