What are you reading this weekend?
Of course, it doesn't have to be historical fiction, although mine happens to be HF: The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn. I'm loving it so far (about halfway through).

I found a book about Music Theory in a coworking space that I work in, so hopefully I can head back that way on Sunday and continue reading it! Non-fiction is not my usual cup of tea but I'm giving it a go!

@Zena Ryder I used to play the drums and dabbled a little bit with the guitar! But I never learned any theory beyond learning about rhythm so I've been quite curious! Do you play something?
Recommendation for a newbie?
Hey guys! I'm new to the group and new to historical fiction! I've gone down some learning rabbit holes after watching movies inspired by historical fiction (Memoirs Of A Geisha anyone?) and want to learn more! What HF book would you recommend as a place to start?

@Marcy Wood oooh women pioneers! Love it! I'll add those to my list too. Frenchman's Creek sounds very du Maurier haha I might have to give that one a go first while her voice is still fresh in my head and I can compare it to Rebecca. I couldn't stand the the narrator in the latter.

@Marcy Wood it very much might look like it's next in line!
Specific city book recs please!
My family and I are doing a whirlwind trip in Germany before making our way to family in Albania for summer vacation. We're going to visit Berlin, Nuremberg, and Munich. Does anyone have any HF recs set in any of these cities? Also, has anyone read The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay? It's on my TBR. Thank you in advance!

@Zena Ryder despite what the map says I’m currently in Taiwan about to head to Thailand hehe But I’m keen to hear about any recs for Eastern Europe! That’s where my family is from!!
Which cover design for this HF book do you like best?
As far as I can make out, the first one (mostly white, whale at the top) is the Canadian edition. The one in the middle with the curtain is the American edition (even though it's what I have from my Canadian library). And the third (blue and yellow) is the UK and Australian version. I'd love to know the reasons behind the decisions of publishers' marketing and art departments for their different cover designs. In this case, I prefer the first one (the Canadian edition).

I’m reading the truly wonderful Whalebone Theatre by Julia Quinn (as well as smatterings of various nonfiction). You?

I FINALLY finished a collection of stories by Franz Kafka, including Metamorphosis. Now, that was a slog but I'm glad I got threw it because there were some interesting pieces in there!
