Indoor chickens?
Let's open this can of worms... Indoor chicken privileges — where do you stand? Because some of you have a hen with her own spot on the couch and you know exactly who you are. And some of you think that's absolutely where the line gets drawn. No judgment either way. But we want to know — does your flock have indoor access, and how did that even start?

I have 4 house hens, they have their own full size coop with 3 nesting boxes. They regularly go outside for recess and know how to navigate the dog and 2 cats thru the dining room and kitchen. If the weather isn't good, they have indoor recess with a treat in the kitchen. Poopy messes are few, but easy to clean up. They are well loved and spoiled!

They have to be supervised outside because of neighborhood cats, hawks, and other predators that could jump the fence, and kids.
Chicken therapy
Controversial opinion: Chickens are better stress relief than anything a doctor could prescribe. No copay. No wait time. No side effects except maybe getting too attached and ending up with more chickens than you planned (like that's a bad thing?!?) Sitting in the coop, watching them do their thing — there's nothing like it. If you've felt it, you know exactly what I mean. Has your flock ever genuinely gotten you through something? Tell us about it!

Ours are totally therapeutic! My turkey Avocado is by my side when I am outside in the garden. She even rides on the shovel! And our newest addition, Cadbury comes and sits in my lap, gives me kisses and will perch on my shoulder and lean into me like a little hug.
How does your garden grow?
May is here (already!) and fur most growing zones, it's officially gardening season! Is anyone growing a garden? I'd love to hear about it! I'm very behind in my garden revamping project and going slowly but surely. My husband and I built raised garden beds...one 8'x8', two 2'x12', three 4'x12', and five 4'x14' beds. We had over 16,000 pounds (yes, you read that right...8 tons!) of soil compost mix delivered to our house and moved it from the front driveway to back of the yard by shovel and wheelbarrow. So many trips back and forth, miles walked, and we still need the 563 cubic feet of garden space is only half full. I built hoop row covers and we got irrigation kits to install. We got 3 varieties of raspberries, 2 blackberries, two blueberries, 2 peach trees, a fig tree, 2 varieties of asparagus, a concord grape vine, and 6 small pomegranate seedlings. More kinds of veggies and herbs than I can list here. It's been a massive project but it's going to pay off! I'm exhausted but excited about our future mini farm.

Haven't done much in mine yet. Chickens are enjoying the space for dirt baths. They did the initial clean out of leaves and turning the soil. We usually wait until the crazy Michigan weather settles down.

So are mine!
Chicken math and pity chickens
12 - 1 = 15... After mysteriously and suddenly losing my favorite girl, Morticia, my husband felt bad for me. For my birthday at the end of March, he surprised me and took me to get new chicks! He even gave me permission to have a house chicken (now or in the future)! My new girls are now a month old, zooming, flapping, jumping , and enjoying their new feathers. What a wonderful age! Is anyone else currently raising spring chicks? Share your pictures with us!

If you do a house chicken be prepared to dust / vacuum every day. They are so much fun inside and attentive when mine go outside for recess. Totally spoiled.
How often do you really clean the coop? 😅
No shame. We’re among friends.
