Is your organization “Googlable”?
Ok, so maybe that’s not a real word but I think you get my point. This post is for those who actually have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Weekend challenge: 1. Type your nonprofit name into Google search. 2. New search: Type your nonprofit name and the city and state of where the nonprofit is registered. 3 Create social media pages for your nonprofit if you do not have one for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. TikTok is optional but encouraged. These must be created from your personal and FB will need to be verified.- The reason I asked you to do this is because funders will do this basic search when you are requesting funding. Also, when you have a fundraising event or even a community event, potential donors and attendees will do the same. Social media is free and the foundation of awareness which often leads to building credibility. In this current climate, the latter is critical. Although I didn’t add this to the list, you may want to Google your name and the organization together. Just remember, on the Internet there is no way to separate your personal image from your professional image. You are a leader of influence! As much as you feel comfortable, share in the comments what you were surprised to find. If you found other nonprofits with the same or a similar name share whether they were more or less visible than your organization. Lastly, if you experienced an ‘ah-hah’ moment during any part of this process, feel free to share in the comments.
