1 contribution to Handling training for your dog
What’s your biggest struggle with your dog rn?
My biggest struggle with Ässo right now is his anticipation of pain at the vets after surgery and he has started growling and wanting to get out of the restraint. I’m going back to basics with his handling training now during rehab! Olle is over aroused and gets silly - only to then go over threshold and start nibbling the person or crawl around on the floor. He doesn’t really have a protocol or handling training yet — so I’m going to introduce a prey lock to him!

Vet exams of any kind. At one of her many ER trips (don’t ask she was a terror and I worried like I was being paid 🤣) before she was 9 months old, she must have been harshly handled / handled with breed bias in the back. We’d been to that clinic before and they’d done great with her so I thought nothing of it. But I think we caught a bad tech at some point who just decided she was going to be hell and treated her as such. Because she went from a dog that was sooooo good with the vet and loved all the techs at our regular clinic, to be completely fearful and defensive. We can barely even get vaccines in her let alone anything else at this point and that’s with drugs and a very understanding vet who does house calls. So obviously we need to get to a place where she can at least be otherwise focused when things need doing by the scary medical people. 🫣😬
