this is something i recently painted for an online zine. the theme was birds, so i decided to draw an arctic scene with some penguins because i've been resenting the heat 😩 i recently started to use a photobashing technique to create references. i often neglect to use a reference because i assume i'll be fine without one but it makes everything go so much quicker!!!

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet lately! I’ve been working diligently to finish my comic, and I’m happy to say it’s DONE! 🎉🌽 With the school year approaching, my schedule is about to get a lot busier, which means my time to create will be a little more limited. While I’m waiting to send the comic off to the printers, I’ll continue working on my comics whenever I can find the time. The important thing is—I got this issue finished, and I’m really proud of how it turned out. This project has been a marathon, not a race, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward with the Cryptid Corn Guy universe. 👽🌽🎪 For now, here’s a look at the finished cover… and a potential page from Issue #3! 👀 Thanks to everyone who continues to follow, support, and encourage this crazy little comic of mine. Hey artists 👋 Real talk — I dropped a workshop in here recently and I don’t think most of you even saw it (my bad, I had it tucked away where it shouldn’t have been). So here it is, front and center: The Artist Mindset Reset is now open to everyone in the community. If you haven’t looked around on here much is under the classroom tab It’s not about technique. It’s about the stuff that actually gets in the way: artist block, motivation, goal setting, confidence. The invisible stuff that’s honestly harder to fix than any skill. No fluff, just something you can use today. These are some ink sketches I made for a LARP that I attend. I know super nerdy. I used to frequently work with Ink, doing noir style lighting with the hard shadows and running comic book styling. It has been a long time since I had last picked up a pen and I only got back into this about a year ago. These are the ones I'm most proud of currently. I'm hoping to get some of these off the sketchbook and into an actual frame able piece soon. I find having a story line to follow is the best inspiration.

Something I tend to struggle with a lot is second guessing myself, especially when it comes to commission works. When I make things for myself, I tend to have more of a “eh, let’s see what happens” attitude and go from there, but with commission works or even something small for family and friends, I really start to question everything I do and doubt the process. For example, this pet portrait I am doing for a commission I started doubting right as soon as I started working on the purple and yellow splashes. I started freaking out thinking that I used the wrong combo of yellow and purple and too much of it…. However, I told myself to keep going and at least finish one of the dogs. Needless to say, I am happy with how it looks for far! Trusting the process can really be hard sometimes, even with watercolor. That ugly phase of painting really be testing me sometimes😅 What’s something y’all really struggle to overcome?
