Devotional: Still Useful in His Hands
I stood there looking at that old tanker—my dad’s tanker. It had been sitting for years, nestled between two old pecan trees. The silver was still there underneath, but it was covered in mildew, worn down by time, weather, and neglect. It hadn’t moved in so long, it almost felt like it never would again. To most people, it probably just looked like scrap. Something forgotten. Something that had already served its purpose. But I knew better. That tanker had history. It had carried loads. It had been useful. It still had value—just not in the condition it was currently in. When the day came to move it, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. It hadn’t rolled in years. It had just been sitting there, stuck in place. But with the right equipment—some help, some power, some intentional effort—it began to move. Slow at first… then steady. And just like that, something that looked stuck… wasn’t stuck at all. It rolled away like it still had purpose. Standing there watching it, I couldn’t help but think—that’s us sometimes. There are seasons in life where we sit still too long. Life happens. Loss happens. Disappointments pile up. We get covered in the mildew of discouragement, regret, or even just routine. And after a while, we start to believe the lie that we’re no longer useful… that maybe our best days are behind us. But God doesn’t see us that way. He doesn’t look at the surface. He doesn’t define us by how long we’ve been sitting still. He sees what He created. He sees purpose still inside of us. And just like that old tanker couldn’t move on its own, we weren’t meant to either. With the right power—the Holy Spirit—we begin to move again. With the right connection—walking closely with Christ—we begin to regain direction. With the right perspective—we realize we were never useless… we were just waiting. God has a way of taking what looks worn down and putting it back into motion. He restores. He renews. He calls us forward again. The enemy wants you to believe you’ve been sitting too long.

Many things to many people...I just hope I reflect the light of Christ.
