Hot take 🔥 Don't bother starting an email list...
Episode 254: The Most Dangerous Business Advice I've Heard This Year If I was starting from scratch in 2026... I'd build a community. I'd use AI. I'd create interactive tools. I'd do collaborations. I'd start a podcast. I'd focus on SEO. I'd do all of it. But I still wouldn't skip the email list. Not a chance. Curious... why are YOU building an email list? What's the role it plays in your business? (Podcast episode is now live if you want to hear my very spicy thoughts on this 😂 - and look at some of these replies from my own email list when I shared this episode with them... worth a listen my loves!)

My email list's role is to invite coaches into my Skool community. It used to have the role of driving traffic to my offer funnels but now I am focusing on just ONE thing only and that's growing my Skool community of coaches 🥳
Honest moment 👀
I started a traffic challenge this week because I wanted more momentum, especially here on Skool. And if I’m honest? Today I’m feeling weirdly stuck. Not because I have nothing to sell. Not because I don’t believe in what I’ve built. But because sometimes when you’re inside your own business, everything starts feeling noisy. “Should I niche down?” “Should I run ads?” “Should I email my list?” “Is my audience even the right audience?” “Am I overcomplicating this?” 😅🙃 The irony of teaching email marketing while having one of those days is not lost on me 😂 So I’m curious… Have you ever had a day where you KNOW what to do in theory……but your brain just says nope? That was me today (I ended up watching a movie with a cup of tea instead!) Tell me I’m not the only one 😅👇

Yes, absolutely. I have days like this and then I find that if I take a break, the next day goes back to normal

@Kylie Kelly that sounds like a lovely way to reset ☺️
Help with reach
Hey everyone, So I have a freebie which is converting but I have a small Instagram following and a lot of them are niche neighbours. I have toyed with the idea of using paid ads to get more viability to grow my email list. Has anyone had success with this yet?

I've had a lot of success with Pinterest. I schedule organic pins daily to promote my freebie and build my email list. I also spend about £10 per day on Pinterest ads. When I used Meta ads I didn't get great results but I think that was because I didn't set it up correctly.

My Social Media Relationship Audit
Right now, social media feels soul-suckingly stressful in my business. 😒 Social media has never felt like somewhere I want to call home. I’ve never wanted to be an influencer or a content creator. I remember when social media was truly about connection with those you knew (though I really wasn't on it then either) and now it just feels like a contest made for extroverted people who’s trying to make us all compete to see who can find the most “friends” (followers) like currency. I’ve been a freelance Business of One for the last 5 years and have sustained my business without the use of social media. Now I feel like I don’t necessarily own my time the same way I did when I started. I’m missing that ✨creative spark✨ I used to have and now want to enjoy my business again. As a writer and editor at heart and in practice, I know that sharing through ✍🏽 is probably the route I need to take, but social media has made it seem like we have to be physically visible to even matter or find our people. That’s where the amount of choices out there gets to be overwhelming too. Instagram feels like too much. I think I’ll like YouTube. Maybe Substack works better. Maybe Pinterest and/or Threads as a second funnel. It can get exhausting to know what to choose what’s best for me. 😵‍💫 That’s where I get stuck. Because I just want to make a good living reading books, writing stories, and editing manuscripts for amazing women who want to tell their story. 💜 I think we’re being convinced that social media is necessary to do that so people push that, but I don’t think so…or maybe just don’t want that to be true for everyone. I appreciate you all for reading this. 🫶🏽 As you see, I can write a lot with relative ease; however, when thinking about social media content, *🦉 🦉🦉*. I'm still figuring out my lane while trying to have some fun while doing it (if that's even possible) but I know that email is definitely a route I want to take. Now to get people to find it and join — that's my next step for now.

I agree, Instagram does feel like too much. You have to put in so much effort and yet you get little back.
