@Michael Clegg @Mike Ludwig Great share, thank you! Through faith in Jesus Christ - key point Blessed - happy and prosperous and fortunate Are you finding yourself happy to be fully dependent on God? Happy and fortunate WHILE you are fully depending on Him, like you said about the children? โBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heavenโ โ Matthew 5:3 To be poor in spirit - some have seen this as just physical/material poverty. You have captured it correctlyโthe one who lacks the true knowledge of God, His word, His plan and purpose for himself, who has come to ACKNOWLEDGE it, are those blessed. Happy are those who come to recognize their spiritual need for dependence on God. Self-sufficiency cannot endure this new thought leadership system that Jesus brought. Self-sufficiency has led men to wage war against others to gain power over a few. The backdraft of this verse is so important to also understand what Jesus meant by โpoor in spiritโ-- the Jewish nation was under the rule of the Romans and Greeks. Those who were listening to Him were of diverse backgrounds, wealthy, middle class and lower class (financially, materialistically) - happiness was dependent on the status of these external things. However, Jesus used the word โblessedโ in this context to say that your happiness is not governed by what you see externally, not earthly circumstances which most of them were looking at at that time. Yours is the kingdom of heaven - look to the eternal things while you are also existing on the earth. This does NOT mean you donโt work for the bread that perishes, but you are positioned to store for yourself treasures in the eternal more so. There is always a struggle between the will of God and the will of man - since God gave us free will, how do we know when we are aligned to His will? Jesus showed us. He constantly was in prayer with the Father - He left the multitudes and disciples many times to go and pray, which is talking with the Father. The connection was constant and unbroken. Because of such a connection, you โknowโ your Father's voice so well, that you know when itโs another voice you hear. Because of the fragility of human nature, you will have doubt, and you should do like Jesus, and go to the Father for clarity and confirmation.
