@Chris Legaspi it was interesting. I was surprised how much softer the portrait changed with just altering the eye line
Museum Meetup in NYC? Anyone Local
This Friday afternoon I am planning to go to The MET, to study John Singer Sargent. @Chris Legaspi inspired me to stop taking my privileges for granted. If anyone else is local I would LOVE to hangout. About the Exhibition https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/sargent-and-paris

@Chris Legaspi Unfortunately not much here in the boondocks but there is a really nice art museum I can get to in a three hour round trip bus ride. Iโ€™ve been there a few times and it was great.

Just wrapped this one up. Zorn palette for it because why not? I cannot paint hair with oil.

Here are sketches I did for the first section of your free figure class. Criticism is welcomed. I think the reason I may have such a difficult relationship with drawing (although it's no excuse) is because when I was starting the art program at a local SF college, I registered for a Drawing 1 class with Robert Bechtel (a rather famous photorealist artist). The first two weeks of the class he just told us to draw, draw anything. Then two weeks later when he later went around the room to look at what people had done for two weeks he came to me, he said "What is that". I said "the drawings I did for the class these two weeks." He took a long pause, closely looking at the work. Took a deeper breath and mumbled "I don't know why you are in this class, you can't draw" Well, needless to say, I quickly dropped the class and never returned to drawing. But I wasn't ready to give up art all together and found my home in the sculpture department under Stephen DeStaebler. and got my degree there. This was in the late 70s. Another little interesting twist to this story. I was working in the sculpture department yard one day years later, and Bechtel came by. He said, "I've been watching you, you should take my drawing class" I was polite but didn't respond. I found the easiest sketch to be following along with was your video of image one below. Not sure why exactly but I think it was the sweeping lines. The hardest sketches for me to do were the gesture continuous axis drawings which I kept thinking "isn't this just contour drawing".

Thank you Darren. I was just working on a table. Iโ€™ll definitely do this.
figure Drawing Essentials Class
Hi Chris: I notice there isn't any posted work in the free class that you offered yet. I hesitate to post because I am a beginner drawer and I can see from the community postings many of the members here have been drawing for several years. (I definitely struggled just trying to do the first few exercises.) I know that this channel will be a great spot for established drawers to connect and collaborate and what a powerful and welcoming tool that will be. I just wonder if there is really room for such a beginner like myself to participate or even if you will want to include such distractions from a truly inspiring goal of linking like minded and skilled people. I did notice in the profiles there are some "beginner drawing" members but just haven't seen any of their work posted yet. Has any beginner posted?

Thank you for the encouragement Herbert. Like you say you have to begin somewhere.
